If you don’t beat Bournemouth at home then you might as well pack it in for the yearHehe, I dont think its just the standalone Utd result, its more the 2 pts from 9 and the performances overall. Having said that, I dont think we are in crisis yet...draw with Bournemouth and then lose to Newcastle in our next 2 games and then be on 3 pts from 15 and THEN I think we will be in crisis
Probably because he’s unsettled and his hearts not in it for Leicester any moreI thought the issue was that he tends to go missing in a lot of games these days.
What he says and does are two completely different things.I'm sure he said we're still looking to strengthen only this weekend?
Well maybe he needs to stop waiting for Mr Perfect to come along. That player might not be there for a very long time. You can broaden your horizons. There’s lots of great midfielders out there. You don’t have to wait until they’re transfer listed, you can always approach a club with a good offer.I used Evans as an example but I have no doubt you were saying we must sign a CB that summer. I said the same fwiw.
And yea, you are missing the point. If there is somebody out there that the club want and is available then we'd sign them. If we're not signing them it's because the club don't want them. I promise you they're not just not signing somebody to **** you off. And I'm not saying it's black and white or that there's only 2 midfielders in the world that we want. I have no doubt there's a long list of midfielders the club are looking at (probably including Tielemans) but it's clear that the club have a very high bar when it comes to deciding on signings and if they don't believe x is going to be the long term answer to our needs then they won't move for them. As I've said multiple times now, it's not the perfect way of doing things but it's the way the club operate and it's worked on the whole for us. Signing x because on paper he's a small upgrade, only to need to upgrade him in 12 months makes no sense. After all, Utd signed Baily, Linderlof, Maguire and Varane - they were all upgrades on what went before and yet after spending a near £200m they still need improving their back line.
And you might not know why we've not signed a midfielder but it's pretty ****ing obvious to me, I mean Klopp literally spelt it out the other day. He said the club will only sign the right player and the financials have to make sense so the answer is the club haven't found the right player at the right price. Mine and your opinions on who we want count for ****.
Id give Nunez a bit more time before you mock us for Pepe, because atm it looks like you’ve signed an 85m mentalistGiven how well we've done I'll take that as a compliment. I certainly give your opinions as much credit as I give Man Utd's transfer strategy over the past few years too.
I'm not sure if you think a transfer list is a real thing and I'm sure the club are aware that you can approach another club with an offer but if they're refusing to sell or asking for 3x what you think they're worth then there's not much you can do. As for maybe not waiting for Mr Perfect, doing that has meant Liverpool haven't signed players like Pepe for £70m. It's not a coincidence that the clubs that have just gone out and signed anybody and everybody are the clubs that have had less success than the clubs that have been very exact in who they want.
Again, so there's no confusion, I accept that our approach is not without it's issues. I've said for the past 18 months that I want us to sign another midfielder and I said that we should have signed a CB in 2018 when we couldn't get VVD initially. That's not what Liverpool do though and you'd be hard pushed to suggest they got it wrong very often in the past 6 years.
Got to ask, how much money have we wasted under Arteta v Klopp? Why do I need to give Nunez more time? I've said about 10 times in the past hour that our approach isn't perfect but our approach is designed to minimise the risk of us signing duds. That doesn't mean we won't sign them but it's just less likely. Arsenal's transfer approach in previous years and Utd's in particular has been far less picky and it's no coincidence that you've both wasted more money.
edit: And I didn't use Pepe as an example to mock Arsenal, I used him as an example because many of the same Liverpool supporters currently losing their **** over us not having signed a CM were adamant Liverpool should have signed Pepe too.
I agree with you about the scatter gun approach, yes it didn’t work, there were a few good’uns including Tierney, Martinelli and Saliba, but not that many compared to the last two seasons. A lot of credit goes to Edu as well as Arteta. Being such a top player and member of the invincibles gives him a bit more clout and influence over players than the other businesmen type DoF.I have no idea (I can't even think of when Arteta took over) and no desire to search but I mentioned Arsenal in previous years when you were signing players like Sokratis, Luiz, Mkhitarayan etc etc. Arsenal's approach in the transfer market from the latter years of Wenger until more recently was very scatter gun and you cannot say it was very successful. Its clear in the last couple of seasons that things have improved and I'm fairly sure I was one of a very few that were defensive of your signings last summer when many were laughing.
I don't want to upset you but my posts aren't specifically about you but a noisy section of our fan base that prefer winning the transfer market than games of football. I'll leave you to decide whether you fall into that category.
£16m is virt risk free money these days for a playerPeanuts these days, surprised no one has moved on him yet although i'm not sure he's a top player.
Sorry to say, but he probably just doesn’t care about Leicester. They are showing 0 ambition and his WC place is pretty much guaranteed anyway. It’s not the right attitude but it’s the way it is. Put him in a team going for a European trophy, in the champs league or challenging to get in it, and you’ll see a different player.Basically nail on head.I thought he'd want to put a shift in being a WC year, or at least advertise himself in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
He only signed a contract extension because nobody wanted him.
That sentiment is true, but the fact remains they are still quality players. I would guess a few clubs might be waiting towards the end of the window to drive the price down.If a player isnt bothered about playing for a club regardless of what club it is they clearly have a horrible attitude and arent worth signing.
So are TranmereYeah looks Newcastle out of the race.
We still want Pedro and then CM on loan.
