Summer Transfer Window 22/23

About as much use as it is to Utd.

I agree though, this season is shaping up nicely, lots of interesting moves this summer. Top 6 all look considerably stronger than last year. Top 4 race could be a belter. Thought Newcastle could get involved, but I’m a bit underwhelmed with their business tbh. Thought theyd be splashing the cash more than they have. I think the top 6 are gonna pull away even further this year.

Not convinced there is much point trying to go from zero to hero for Newcastle. They should be looking to do it over 3-5 years and I think thats what they will do. They aren't a big draw currently so they will overpay and give silly salaries if they want the very best players. In 3 years time if they are competing for top 6 they will be much better placed to bring in those players.

I think Zinchenko is a good signing in fairness. Arsenal are just lacking that huge player to take them up a level, although I don't think Arteta is great either - but probably worth giving him this season.

Zinchenko deal agreed

32million hes travelling to usa to link up with the squad

good cover for quite a few positions we need although i reckon he will become a regular

Apparently edu has told him ukraine can use emirates for any home fixtures they need

My sensible Toon season ticket holding friend is of this opinion.

There seems to be quite a lot of trust in Howe to build a good side within a decent structure over a few years.

He is struggling with the Saudi bit as a self confessed liberal lefty!

Howe is a good manager and its harder than ever to break into the top 4/6 IMO. You can waste vast sums of money and create a complete mess if you do things badly. At this stage, structure and planning is probably more important than outright spending. City have done a good job of creating a great structure in the club but have also obviously spent megabucks.

Plus they weren't taking over a basket case of a club.

I think he means as in a structural mess. United have been a structural mess and still outperformed most clubs in the league simply through spending enough.

Yeah, City were at least in the process of rebuilding their infrastructure.

Newcastle were giving season tickets away and all sorts, the place was toxic, I could have had free tickets for most matches if I wanted them.

Now you find them next to rocking horse poo, but there's still a lot to do in the background despite the new enthusiasm, according to my friends who follow them closely anyway.

Newcastle were a well run club all things considered. Ashley always had his business head on with Newcastle. He has left them in a fantastic position for the new owners. They can spend a lot and still be within FFP.
