Summer Transfer Window 23/24

I put more worth on the club stating he isnt for sale regardless, i think the only time they've done that in recent memory was the Suarez to arsenal saga.

Next summer for sure we'll entertain offers, even then im not sure its the right thing to do. He may be turning 32 end of the season but he's got a good 4+ years in him at the elite level imo
Not sure about 4+ years, I'd be surprised if he kicks off 2027/8 season still regarded as elite. He'll lose some pace by the time he hits 36, you could maybe draw comparisons to Messi but Messi had a higher skill ceiling and arguably less reliant on pace.

I feel like we have enough midfielders now, if we're in for anyone in January, I'd prefer it to be CB/FB's
Thiago is in the last year of his contract isnt he, get Andre in and thats the midfield locked down for the next 5 years plus.

Saw some chatter about luca netz earlier. Very promising LB.

I see that Pepe has been sold for £4m or thereabouts. If that was Utd signing a player for £72m and selling him on four years later for that, the media would bang on about it for weeks.

Have we? Pogba is the only comparison really and we didn't sell him, his contract expired. Even if we had spent a decade doing that surely the Arsenal one would be more newsworthy then as it is different to the norm?

Not quite to the same extent on a single player, but off the top of my head you've recouped very little for Pogba, Fred, Bailly, Sanchez, Jones and are likely to take a bit of a bath on Maguire and Martial at a minimum. And how you did ok out of Lukaku I'll never know!

And "team makes rare bad transfer decision" is not as newsworthy as "team keeps buying expensive players and ruining them"

Well Sanchez and Bailly were both far cheaper (and Bailly injuries have pretty much ended his career, same with Jones) Bailly and Jones were both at the club a very long time too. Fred likewise, he's been here a a long time and has gone for cheaper now he's in his 30's, that is pretty normal. Martial has been here 9 years, of course we're not going to get our 'money back' but it's not like we got nothing out of him.

Getting Pepe for 4x£18m was literally (I looked it up just now) described as "stonking business" by one Arsenal fan on this forum.
If you add on his wages over 4 years that's potentially over £100m he cost depending on how much of his wages were covered on loan. Must be at least £95m anyway.

I actually agree to some extent that it's a bit surprising more hasn't been made of the waste of money he was compared to e.g. Maguire signed at the same time for a fee only slightly higher.

Search my name and Pepe ;).

Every club has a duff signing but its funny to laugh at some clubs more then others plus forwards just get more attention and are plagued by the whole G/A stats.

Low bar though innit. I mean getting kicked in the shins is preferable to getting kicked in the nuts but that doesn't mean you like it.

He gets a rough deal because of the pricetag, my post in 2019 says he's a player that should've cost in the £15-30m range and he's performed adequately for that price, but not £72m.

I think Pepe got a rough deal at Arsenal.
His stats compare favourably to Anthony and Sancho combined lol
