Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Thanks. There's no caps in stock at the moment :(

I've got extra BCAA's already added in with the whey I'm using although not a great deal which is making the decision of choosing between BCAA's again or EAA's a bit of a head scratcher.

Per 100 grams, BCAA content is:

Iso-Leucine 333mg
Leucine 333mg
Taurine 2500mg
Valine 333mg

And I'm currently on two scoops per day.

If you mix eeas with other nicer supps and add some cinnamon it does make them more palatable. A trick is to leave them in room temp water for 30 mins or so as they dissolve better making them less gritty. Still they taste absolutely vile.

I think I'll go the capping route as it's easier if I'm not at home before I train to take them and saves having to take them + shaker + water with me. Also easy post workout too while I'm stood by my locker.

I've found this site:

http://www.value-healthcare.co.uk/store/index.php?cPath=29

Which has caps & capping kits slightly cheaper. I'm not sure if it is better or worse than the one on myprotein but it's likely I'll buy from here as they have caps in stock so will let people know how I get on.

just been to the myprotein site (where I bought mine from) and it seems in stock.

It wasn't when I ordered mine!

I got the '00' size filler, 1500 caps and a 'tamper' to compact the powder in each capsule for a denser filling for £31.40 something delivered. They do the '000' size capping kits but don't have any caps on the site at current.

EDIT:

I emailed BSD asking what they thought would be best to go for either BCAA's or EAA's and they very quickley replied sending me a link. I've always had fantastic customer service and support from them. They're always happy to help. I had to return an order due to various reasons (nothing related to them or the product) and they were very helpful. They're all dedicated trainers too so know their stuff. Anyway they sent me this link and 'Jay' favours EAA's.

Thought some of us might find it an interesting read:

EDIT:
Use code 'BSD324' for 5% off your first order with BulkSupplementsDirect.co.uk

I've got a question, I've searched around and I'm still not entirely sure. I'm considering asking my doctor for HGH. I'm currently 5'4 and fluctuating between 6.7 and 6.9 stone. I've got my dad's genes for height and build. He was 7.5 stone at 18, and he's 5'6. Is it worth asking for HGH?

Think I might join and have a browse.

anant_shah94,

I think that's going to be classed as medical advice. I don't know if you want it to help you gain weight, or grow taller? Fairly sure the likes of Ronnie used HGH and whilst he's a monster he's not as tall as a tree.

Speak to your doctor :) Might just have got the short straw for genetics. Although it should give you a rather impressive deadlift if you're nice and short!

Thanks Benny, I do have the short straw for genetics, and while HGH probably wouldn't boost me to six foot, I'm thinking it could help me reach my theoretical maximum height, which would probably be around 5'7 or 5'8, seeing as my dad is 5'6

It may well do. Unfortunatley it's an area that I don't know anything about. Have a google see what you can find and then see your GP. Hopefully he'll refer you to a specialist if he can see you're serious and have done some research, as opposed to just palming you off.

Obviously no medical advice but IMO don't even consider it. You are too old for much/ any height growth now (growth plates should have mostly closed by 16 or within the next couple of years?) and playing with your hormones isn't a game. I know a chap who will be going on a low, in terms of bodybuilding anyway, dose without any other compounds in the next few weeks, which I haven't seen before, so it'll be interesting how it helps without massive amounts of test coursing through your veins.

I read on bodybuilding.com in the teen bodybuilding section about 'things we can't discuss here' and the effects of them on teens still growing. Apparently growth plates don't properly close until early 20's? The main point of the sticky was don't even think about it for a second. Obviously there's a slight difference between what they were discussing and what we are, but in general it was a 'no'.

You can't say I have x inches to gain. Relax, what will be will be :)

I certainly hope so :D

I was just making an estimate based on my dad's height, and that every generation is a little taller than the last, and as he's 5'6, I'm hoping for 5'7 max. But I'm more concerned with my muscle mass, and the fact that my build means that when I try to bulk, it will be incredibly difficult to gain muscle

:(

I suppose, I just wanted a little height/mass boost. I don't feel confident enough to start a proper weights program yet, so this'd be the only legal, and safest way

Right, I've looked at the breakdown of what's in my Phd Pharma Whey and I've very very very painfully worked out the exact cost of mixing my own version of it to come to between £10-11 per KG (Using BSD Whey Protein concentrate), saving me around £10 (Phd comes in 2.27KG tubs and retails for around £30-35 a tub).

Along with the whey this currently gives me per scoop: 500mg Taurine, 200mg L-Glutamine & 200mg BCAA's. Not great amounts!

Am I right in guessing that this isn't really enough to be worthwhile? currently using 2 scoops per day so the amounts above would be doubled.

I've worked out the annual cost of using Phd.

I've also worked out the annual cost of mixing my own blend giving me: 2000mg Taurine, 2000mg L-Glutamine & 2000mg BCAA's.

However this works out at around £45 more expensive over the year but is giving me substanscially more Taurine, L-Glutamine & BCAA's, 4 grams of each split before and after my workout.

Is the increase above substancial enough to be worthwhile and warrant the extra cost?

It seems:

http://www.value-healthcare.co.uk/store/index.php

Are a bit useless. I placed my order on Saturday so don't expect anything to have been done until Monday or Today. It says they aim to dispatch orders placed before 2pm the same day.

Nochex was 'Pending' and has 'Authorised' under the status of my order. I've sent several enquiries and had no reply. The number at the bottom of the site is also permenantley engaged.

Thinking they've done a runner with my money. Going to be in touch with Nochex but I would avoid as I don't actually think the site is being operated. You can join and well get order confirmations but that's as far as it seems to go.

On another note I can confirm EAA's smell like feet mixed with fat person who hasn't washed. I know this because I know what feet smell like, and also what a fat person who doesn't wash smells like because I live with one.

A mouthful is tolerable, gulping even with cinnamon is worse. The taste creeps up on you, not so bad, a bit iffy and then boom full on wrank. The capping route whilst I've re-ordered from somewhere else will be expensive using between 20-30 caps for a 10 gram serving. So I will be trying to mix the EAA's with minimal water and then just man up. If I can do this then I'll cap the Leucine to take at intervals during the day instead as it's a much smaller serving of around 2 grams.

Why are you taking the EEAs mate? I'm sure I read that eggs contain all you need (unless you don't eat eggs of course).

I eat eggs daily. Do you have a link to where you read it mate?

I was unsure of choosing between EAA's or BCAA's. And as EAA's contain the BCAA's it made sense. I also just wanted to try them to see if I could notice or feel a difference in gains/recovery. Just one of those things I wanted to try to see what the fuss is about.
