Supplements the debate/discussion thread

I complained about something to do with my order when I ordered from them, I think it was a delivery issue similar to one you might be about to experience actually. I mentioned that it was my first order with them and that it didn't exactly give me the best impression. They sent me some samples! :D

Never ordered from them again though :p

Just looked through FAQ dude, according to FAQ every new customer is entitled to free samples but you have to add them to cart when making first order.
Wish they had mentioned it somewhere besides FAQ, I don't understand why they don't just chuck it in with order.

Not a good start tbh.

Need some advice fellas, im returning to the resistance training after about 2 years off, in this time due to surgery and other things i have experienced some dramatic weight loss and gain and inevitably quite a bit of muscle loss too due to this and the fact i haven't been training or doing cardio at all.

Ive ordered my self some whey and instantised BCAA from BP and some creapure from MP and have my fish oils on hand already. Is there anything else i should be picking up to aid my return to the gym and recovery?

Weights are generally down by a massive amount, i was a little shocked just by how much when i first got back in the gym. Im doing a three way split focusing on slow strict form but im really feeling the strain on the muscles the day following.

That's normal, it's called DOMs as you know.

You've not trained for two years, so your muscles are basically telling you to sod off :p Make sure you're eating well and sleeping well. You can buy recovery supplements but I don't buy anything specifically so hopefully someone else who uses them can offer help.

tbh i reckon BCAA is only really useful for fasted training i believe, anything else and it's probably a waste of money.

fish oils
protein
creatine
and possibly a pre-workout

they are the only ones worth spending money on imo.

all the rest probably ain't worth the money unless you have a nutrition deficit somewhere so spend it on decent food.

under food - coconut oil is worth a mention, as is peanut butter.

Isn't vit D worth taking?

Almond butter > peanut butter

Nutritionally they are pretty similar, but almond butter is almost twice as expensive.

I love almonds, but think that peanut butter tastes better.

So meh.

p.s. cashew butter is obviously the tastiest, but least good nutritionally (and as expensive as almond butter).

isn't that the one you get naturally for free from just being outdoors?

dunno why you would have a deficiency in that unless you live in the gym/cave

Exposure to UV light, actually.

So being outdoors is one thing, but if you're covered, it's pointless.

Hence why a lot of the culturally traditional Middle Eastern/African people in this country are vitamin D deficient. And why there was a case in Southampton, last year (IIRC) of a child with rickets: their mum slathered them in Factor 50 every time they went out in the sun... so whilst they didn't burn, they developed severe bone weakness.

There is also an urban myth about everybody north of Nottingham needing Vit D supplementation of some description because of the relative weakness of the sun north of those latitudes...

Whoever recommended the Cherry Bakewell whey from TPW is so so wrong, the stuff is vile ! Glad i only bought 500g, the choc mint brownie is so much better.

Also just tried the original Jerky from there it's nice, will be getting some more, and the flapjack bars are so good, best protein type bar i have ever tasted (much better that the cookies they do).

Sunscreen stops any absorbtion of Vit D too.

Seeing as you can get a years supply around 5000iu per tab for £15 it's not exactly an expensive outlay.
