Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Anyone with any experience on supplementation for chronic fatigue syndrome/ME? Have been looking into it following a bit of a rash diagnosis - seems like there are a number of recommended supplements out there but could be total tosh. One in particular is L-Carnitine, but with all the different types (tartrate, ALCAR, fumarate etc) can't really see the theory behind them seperately. Anyone tried them or rate them?

Ooh... This is reasonably close to medical as I think we're bound to get here. ;)

Evidence for l-carnitine isn't solid but it apparently may be worth further research going by the work I have looked at.

However, like most things, I suspect it will take more than a simple amino to fix ME/CFS.

Have a word with your doctor, as whilst this is a supplements thread, your query is - I suspect - somewhat beyond its scope and rules

anyone else had an upset stomach from TPW protein? I was always fine with BP and MP stuff but since I started taking TPW my stomach feels like it keeps bubbling :S

I've only been having 1-2 shakes a day as well depending on my diet so it's not like I'm chugging 100s of grams of the stuff

Ha darn, thought i'd bring out some supp gurus for a discussion. I see a bunch of 'guides' on carnitine - how ALCAR can be used to treat mental fatigue and brain fog, tartrate can be used to treat physical stress and improve energy recovery, GPLC for all round energy etc.. but wanted to hear if anyone actually had some empirical evidence on the various formations of carnitine. In theory, they should all do roughly the same thing in terms of restoring mitochondria function (to those potentially impaired). For the average lifter, the benefits should go further than restoring normal function, into enhanced mitochondria function recovering quicker and delivering more energy to the body - but as you say, the evidence for it working isn't solid, and the science behind the different types performing different functions sounds plain strange.

I'd consult my specialist but they don't believe in dietary or supplementary treatment - have already had the discussion as i suffer from ulcerative colitis, yet successfully managing that with high dose omega 3, glutamine, d3, iron and probiotics. Back to google!

Theproteinworks are giving a free shaker bottle with orders over £10 today. Also 50% off on some of their pack deals, and then theres peoples referral codes for free protein (mines: kd29258 if anyone wants one)
Ill be using lies referral again with todays order because the offers make it worth ordering today i think.

make an account for your neighbour and on the day of delivery use the "leave with a neighbour" option when you get the text and select your address :p

the lengths some people will go to for a fiver.

i'm all for saving money, but do you know what you are actually doing to TPW by doing this?

the referral system is in place in order for the business to attract "new" customers which hopefully turn into repeat customer's.

if everyone did this TPW would go bust, it's morally and ethically wrong.

or if enough people do it TPW need to increase their prices in order to make up for the losses they are making, as i doubt their profit margin is very high so everyone basically getting £5 off every order would make a huge difference to their profits.

I'm not doing it I couldn't care less about saving 5 quid.... if I did I wouldn't use TPW in the first place
I bet you have no issue with the people that have multiple bank accounts and bounce 1k between them each month for the interest though

Anyway who do you think is paying for the refferal fee? if you believe its coming out of their profits your living in cloud cuckoo land.

in other news DFS has a sale all year round

I'm pretty sure the referral points are only added if an order is placed, otherwise they remain in 'pending' state.

Anyone wanting to abuse the current offer at TPW, add a 4kg bag of whey to get your order over £45, then add as many 500g bags of whey as you want, then use the code FREE and it will remove the value of all the 500g bags, instead of just one like the offer says

Depends how far you want to push it incase they don't honour it, but they've taken the money for my order :D

TS6642 if you've not used TPW before
