Supplements the debate/discussion thread

The protein works have their bars at half price at the moment £9 per box, they're out of stock but they'll be getting more in at the beginning of next week.
If it's your first order use te1497 to get some free protein as well.

Nice. Thanks. Have you tried them?

Yeah, they're pretty good not massively chewy like some bars, decent chocolate taste and they only use whey isolate as their protein source unlike some other bars that use stuff like collagen which our bodies can't use but still can be listed in the protein content.

you guys really should try out go nutrition on your next order, cheaper than tpw.

turkish delight as well as pancakes and maple syrup are lush flavours

use AEXS1U for a free bag of protein

Thanks for the heads up on TPW bars. I've had MyProtein ones in the past and they were the chewiest things ever.

whats your recipe?

theres literally thousands out there on the net, theres also plenty of youtube tutorials out there.

most involve oats, milk, peanut butter, honey and whey, then you can add any nuts, or dried fruit you like into the mix.

Ingredients:

120g oats,
100g peanut butter,
2-3 scoops of whey
125ml skimmed milk,
Tablespoon clear honey (15g).

Directions:

Whey and oats into large bowl; mix together,
Add milk and peanutbutter and mix together until evenly mixed,
Add honey and stir evenly through mixture.
Line tray with grease proof paper,
Spread mixture onto paper (2-3cm thickness),
Place in fridge for 20-30mins.
Pre-heat oven to 190 degrees C (gas mark 5),
10 minutes in oven,
Remove, slice and leave to cool.

I swear this is an automated message, I just got something very similar sent to me on FB from someone I used to work with.......

Either that or it really is that good.

the flavours are really good, i've never really had anything like turkish delight before.

it's very similar to a indian milkshake flavour, which is hard to get a hold of over here.

make sure you use AEXS1U for a free bag of protein on your first order, they also have a free blender ball shaker whilst stocks last, as well as free delivery on orders over £50 which comes in handy.

my order arrived today, the packaging was first class, the blender looks like a premium one, since they are also cheaper than TPW, people should try them out tbh, the guy which runs/owns the company is the guy who started myprotein (which was sold to the hut group), TPW is run by former staff of myprotein i believe.

anyway more competition means better pricing and currently they are cheaper than TPW and most likely that will be one of their biggest draws as well as quality and the unique flavours.

Has anyone here used beta alanine? What're your thoughts?

My intended use is pre workout for weights and high intensity/ interval sessions on a bike.

Yes, but don't bother as a pre-workout.

Beta alanine's benefits accrue in the same way as creatine, I.e. with a particular dose pattern across a number of weeks. Why? Because it is the rate limiter in the production of carnosine, a key element in power output maintenance in the anaerobic range (I.e. >100% VO2max).

As such, taking it in a pre-workout will be generally pointless as the doses orally in PWOs are high enough to give parasthesia (google it) as well as the excess getting emptied out through the kidneys.

The 'best' (i.e. consistent evidence done by science people)dose pattern is effectively 1g, 5 times a day (each dose should be between 10-20mg/kgbw) to minimise excretion waste and parasthesia.

As supplements go, it is one of the better researched and substantiated ones. Only bother if you're lifting heavy and going for unpleasant interval training.
TL;DR

1g/dose, 5 times a day. No idea if it does anything, but every little helps... :)
