Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Sounds like you have developed an eating disorder and may want to consider visiting your GP.

I wouldn't even think about gym or anything else until you've sorted out your diet.

This & also what MrThingy said.

Or you'll end up making yourself seriously ill and end up a right state.

Find a new GP if you don't get along with yours.

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys, went to see my GP who referred me to a health specialist this morning, we had a talk for a good few hours, and she has given me a food plan to follow :)

Have to do fortnightly checks with her for 6 weeks to make sure i stick to it.

Lets hope i can do this and go back to loving food! :)

in addition to http://gonutrition.com/ having slashed all their protein prices they now have a payday deal on currently

use code AEXS1U for free protein with your first order

additionally you get a free blender with orders whilst stocks last - just add one to your basket

and

GNPAY50 - 10% off £50
GNPAY75 - 12.5% off £75
GNPAY100 - 15% off £100

don't think anyone is cheaper or has as good tasting protein for the quality atm.

If you're not hitting your maintenance calories, you'll digest your muscles for energy, and actually end up being "skinny fat" before being skinny.

I agree with this.
However, this flies in the face of those who preach Intermittent Fasting.
I simply can't agree with starvation diets, on a long term basis. Every person I have seen who starve themselves (ie. they have 1 big meal during the day and then starve themselves) are grossly overweight.

I tried an ultra low carb diet (which is all the rage in Hollywood) and that just made me feel lethargic and I lost no fat, even though I was exercising 3hrs/day, 6 days a week. After about a month of getting no where, I switched to my tried and tested, virtually fat free diet and hey presto, the fat started coming off, just as it always used to. The higher levels of glycogen also helped me to power through my workouts, with ease.

I think that people need to find what works for them.
For some IF works great.
For some low carb diets work best.
For some virtually fat free diets work best.
Its about experimentation.

You have grossly misunderstood IF if you believe it is a starvation protocol. It is merely a different nutrient timing/loading protocol. It does not, in it's original form (god knows how many twists there are on it now!) preach starvation.

Agreed:cool:

It's about adherence. Research has shown people doing LCHF lose no more fat - water weight will be lower but that doesn't count - when the total cal intake is the same as someone else just doing a bog standard carb/fat split. The only thing tons of different successes people have had with different diets is they don't have anything in common... other than eating at a deficit consistently.

As said I.F. is nothing like starvation, even a 24rh fast is nothing compared to REAL hunger. A massive overall daily/weekly calorie deficit combined with no exercise, or prolonged endurancy type exercise = goodnight sweet lean mass, which is what most people (women in particular) do, which means they just end up looking like smaller versions of themselves.

Assuming protein intake is high enough and you're training smartly (heavy lifting but reduced volume relative to a bulk type routine so you're able to recover) you can preserve strength/lean mass as long as the deficit isn't stupidly big, with the majority of weight loss coming from fat. Obviously if you start getting chemical assistance, some of these rules fly out of the window (e.g. when you see pro BB guys go from chunky to shredded in a stupidly short timeframe).

Different strokes for different folks. Whilst the biology is the same, we all have different levels of hormones, blood levels, lipid profiles etc... some of us our pancreas' work better than others etc... Some of us are more insulin sensitive, some react better to carb cycling, IF, or other lifestyle choices.

Of course some people just don't eat well, or enough, or eat too much! Also it depends on your activity levels and your overall diet too. It's quite a complicated overall picture - but that's why so many solutions are offered, problem is people don't do it scientifically enough or give themselves enough time to see if it's working.

Need some help guys before i fire off an email, I have just received my order from myprotein and popped open my tub of Smooth peanut butter, it isnt smooth, at all!
I was just wondering if MP's smooth PB just isn't that smooth, lots of bits but not quite what im used to in crunchy, Im used to Bulk powders and theirs is as smooth as liquid and perfect for shakes., Its not a big deal but as i use it for shakes it isn't pleasant chugging down lumps of peanuts :D

Ive taken my supplement intake right back, almost full natty now. Im just on the dat whey at the moment, not even any creatine, although sometimes if i feel i want to take it to the next level i mix in some instant oats

I have been almost supp free all year too, apart from Whey and dextrose for post workout shake.
No particular I think I was just having a **** month and found it became a chore remembering when to take etc so I didn't bother, got a box full of supplements, might get back on them again soon :D

I have a pre-mixed recovery powder, and I use whey. Other than that, never been interested in additional supps.

Well, the ones they don't you massive anyway :p
