Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Got a question on Greens supplements if anyone can help me out?

I take a serving of Super Greens from TPW daily, I already eat 5-7 portions of fruit/veg daily but just consider it an extra nutrition buffer.

On the packet is says something along the lines of "equivalent to your 5 daily portions of fruit/vegetables". What sort of metric is used to determine this? Or is it just marketing nonsense?

I would take their statement with a pinch of salt. on one hand they say:" a single serving equates to FIVE portions of fruit and vegetables", on the other, they say: "As well as contributing to your FIVE-A-DAY".

all it is, is a convenient way of getting some fibre and vegetables in but I wouldn't substitute whole foods for it. I'd use it at work for example if you don't have time or the facilities to cook loads of veg.
looking at the nutritional profile, there is no way it can be your whole fruit and veg intake for the day. it is basically a tasty "healthy" drink that tastes alright

I just buy greens from the supermarket - lots cheaper, and taste great steamed, then add a touch of salt, lemon and olive oil.

Sure I guess super greens will have more of it, but if you don't enjoy it what's the point? I try and get at least 5 a day from veg and mainly cruciferous veg. After than I will have fruits (min 2 portions a day), but I focus mainly on veg.

Still early days and it may be placebo effect… but I definitely felt the creatine working wonders for me this weekend. I’ve not been in the gym since I’ve started using it (started this past Friday), but yesterday I spent a long day riding my bike in a local freeride area (basically no mileage, just a whole bunch of big jumps on short tracks).

Instead of always pushing back up, I was able to hammer down the pedals up the short steep climbs back to the top. When things were impossible to pedal up, I just threw the bike over my back and climbed like a goat. Usually I’m never that sprightly on the “ups” and had plenty of gas in the tank, when all my mates started moaning they feel like a beer. Usually a day like that would wreck my legs for Monday, but I don’t even feel like they’ve been worked yesterday.

Can't wait to hit the gym tonight.

Creatine has been scientifically proven to increase "awesome" by an arbitrary percentage... A lot of the benefits are typically tracked over weeks and months, but it will probably support greater glycogen content in muscle tissue, so that will probably be what you're noticing...

Just wait until you start curling: it does some pretty funny stuff. :D

Supergreens (powder)
I had the Myprotein version. It was okay, nothing great. It sometimes left a gritty texture in the water - this I did not like.
I have now switched to barley and wheatgrass and like this, so I wont be getting supergreens powder again.
For the record, make sure you buy Apple liquid drops - these go very well with barley/wheat grass and supergreens and tastes great. Apple flavour is terrible with protein shake but fantastic in wheatgrass.

Creatine
Placebo vs actual performance increase: Supercow, as long a supplement is working for YOU, that is the most important thing. My own superfood is tuna + mayo, on wholemeal bread, with melted butter. I also have Gaspari Superpump (which contains creatine) before the workout - this gives me the strongest performance boost. You wont see this combination mentioned anywhere in this thread, so you need to find out what works best for your own body and not somebody elses. And from the sound of it, creatine works well, for you, so keep using it.

Chest and curlz night tonight, looking forward to it. I figured that it should have taken longer to feel any benefit, but the difference really was that pronounced, and I could only attribute it to adding creatine to my diet.

Funnily enough, that's one of mine too, love that as a snack. I tend to use a panini in stead though...OK, im hungry now :p

Haha, wasn't it those Super Greens that Steedie reviewed that went straight through him and punished his anoos?

Funnily enough, I now use them religiously along with Superreds. Swear by them. Only use them at night though. I went back to them when they came out with a new formula and they disagree with me a little less :p

Not to say you should use them instead of veg!!! During the day I probably eat about 1kg worth of fruit and veg in the form of bananas, berries, spinach, broccoli, sprouts, tomatos and avacado. But I still think they're a worthwhile addition
