swg

They changed the classes agreed, not the skill level needed to play. PvP was more about skill after the CU than it was before, I can assure you. I played it for more than 3 times the length you did so don't even bother talking about duration spent playing meaning your opinion is anywhere near fact.

The fact that you were probably buffed to **** when you were taking on the mobs and you were not buffed when it came to the CU probably made a big difference too. So many people moaned about that, and as I found after the CU the lack of buffs made the amount you had progressed in your class actually matter rather than how good a buff you could get.

oh no dont get me wrong i am not lowering myself to the swg-forum favorite "my join date is before yours so i am right", i am just saying i understood the mechanics post and pre cu.

I think perhaps our difference in opinion is perhaps based more on what i consider the definition of skill, spending time to learn your characters attacks, spending time collecting resources and making the best weapons and armor, spending time getting the best food, learning to get your character as strong as you could, which is what pre cu swg was all about, and then winning because of that is far more rewarding or "skillfull" in my eyes than winning or losing simply because the thing your fighting is a higher or lower level than you, which is what post cu created in my eyes with the damage multipliers and levels, even more so because post cu most good weapons were just given to the players at specific points, even the best ones.

and yes i noticed you added a comment about the buffs, but you must also know that been buffed to hell would never win you a battle on its own, especially with the array of damage types, dots and the like you could throw at a player pre cu.

Comment about buffs was only about PvE, I do understand what you say about foods and armour, that annoyed the pants off of me post cu  all the guns I couldn't use and my full set of composite had to change into padded and then I couldn't wear it  That annoyed me bad. Was still a good game though although not a patch on the complexity and depth of the original.

unfortunatly for the players, however good the original was it wasnt selling enough, and its this i cant understand myself, it was the coming about of wow etc and its massive player base that sparked the cu and the nge, pretty much in a "well thats working so lets copy that and let the license sell it".

Was the original too demanding time wise ? even if it was the time you did spend in it was a far more rewarding from a game and a social point of view than the cu/nge ever was.

I could also never understand how content pre-cu was so poor especially when they have one of, if not the best license to pull content from, was la too stringent here ?

and then there was the huge economy pre cu had, which at its peak was the best seen in any morpg in terms of diversity and depth, why did this not bring the more mature players in ?

Whatever the answer to these questions, the cu/nge certinatly wasnt it, they had a loyal player base which all went out the window when they tried to clone wow, which if people had wanted to play, surely they would have already been playing it.

That was a bad time. Good times were before speeders and POIs when the badges meant something. ;)

Story of geo caves life :p

lol this thread brings back some good memories, i played it from the EU launch right upto just after the launch of the space expansion

the ten minute spaceport wait was great as you used to be able to sit and chat with people, made the game more about community imo

Yea that game was very community based which imo made it so awesome, and you felt individual with your own template, but now in the NGE everyones basically the same every pvpers the FOTM :(

Actually while waiting for buffs/shuttles was annoying thats true you talked to allot more "random" people in SWG than i ever have in any other MMO, EQ2 is a clique you only ever talk to your guild mostly,. and don't get me started about WOW, its the only game i have ever played where you get abuse for answering peoples question in genral.

Wasnt that finding all the Jedi exploiting the "funky" spawn point for max XP?

First time i Solo'd the whole cave was great fun but I also had some great runs with my guild.

BUT i also remember camping the acklay spawn for HOURs to get some uber Powerhamers and stun battons made. Then the best ones went and got a flaming speed slice

Hehe, yea did all of that, usually solod it a lot as master swords with doc n other tankin stuff, i got some dodgy bones which made some stun batons with higher min then max, i didnt use them much as ppl got suspicious when i ripped through stun armour like there was none :p then NGE hit and bye bye all lovelly ackley weapons :( i *** still play but its the way SOE just screwed over players that have played since the beginning, my myself never wanting to go jedi got nothing :(

The NGE was the idear of SoE staff after LA demanded changes after CU lost a ton of members and swg not getting the subs it should have for a Starwars game

well all i will say about its negative end will be this when it lost the open ended skill trees and went to the class system it lost all induviduality everyone ended looking the same and why they thought going from about 30 proffs that you could customise as much as you want down to 9 that you have to pick just 1 with no customisation would be more fun fore people whats that all about. well i didnt want this to turn into a rant so thats the negativity over with for me. did anyone take part in the fishing competitions?
