The terror suspect who escaped surveillance by disguising himself as a woman in a burqa was under restrictions to stop him travelling overseas to support terrorism, the home secretary has told MPs.

Theresa May defended the use of terrorism prevention and investigation measures, or Tpims, after the disappearance of the Somali-born suspect, Mohammed Ahmed Mohamed, from a west London mosque on Friday.

That's fine and exactly what I asked for...however do you not think in the absense of that covering - he could not think of something else to use?

I’m genuinely unsure of your meaning, are you saying that if the burqa hadn’t been available,
he was or maybe wasn’t intelligent enough to think of using something else?
On second thought, did you mean that if he hadn’t had the burqa to hand, he’d have used something else?
Whichever way you slice it, he tried to evade capture by wearing women’s clothing.
 
Face coverings are all about subjugation as they dehumanise people, even now under COVID there's no scientific basis for face masks preventing the spread of a virus (and officials even announced it earlier last year) but people have been subjugated into wearing them anyway.

I'm sure some people enjoy wearing medical masks at the moment but like Muslim women, given the choice and without social pressures or risk of being punished for not doing so you would prefer not to.

Criticism of cultural practices =/= ' racism'

Certain cultural practices have included immolating widows, mutilating children's genitals, inflicting excess cruelty on animals to be slaughtered for food, sacrificing infants to gods and killing women who have been deemed to 'dishonor' their families.

Cultural norms that compel women to sometimes completely cover their bodies, making them anonymous, can and should be criticised.

Governments should not however legislate to make it illegal to dress in such a manner.

Companies or private spaces should be allowed to ban full or partial face coverings where there is a security risk or when someone wishes to work for a company.

yes but it could happen. There is nothing to stop criminals moving around under full cover.

my initial bit of fun poked at a sentence missing a word shouldn’t start fingers pointing at me for being a racist.

personally I think it would be a bit grim if everyone wore full coverings so why should women have to do it?

the amount of women who would choose to be fully covered from a standing start with no religious or cultural guidance would be zero IMO.

ban it and you do more good than harm, again IMO.

Can I completely eradicate the thought that someone wearing a full covering so as I don’t stare at them slight pre-judgmental...no, it crosses my mind.

I’m not racist, I just disagree with anyone being forced to wear anything they don’t want.

do I see people fully covered and think terrorist? No
