Switzerland becomes 7th European country to ban face coverings

That’s a bobbins comparison. No one’s forcing any Christian to become a nun and not all nuns wear a full habit.
Lol at the irony of your statement, nobody is forcing people to be Muslim in Switzerland and the vast majority of Muslim women in the west don't wear a niqab or a burka both of which are actually incredibly rare with most Muslim women choosing to wear a Hijab which covers less of your face than a mask for COVID!

I'm not sure I agree with banning religious face coverings. I would rather those who felt the need to wear them were able to make up their own mind and come to the conclusion that they are not something that modern society wants.

Unfortunately it appears that those decisions are taken by others rather than those who have/want to wear them.

I didn't think they were mandatory in islam anyhow. More that it's a tradition/conservative thing, practiced in some countries/cultures.

But not 100% necessary as per their religion.

To be fair that means nothing. We would bring back hanging with a massive majority if there was a referendum,

Also the following things would likely get voted in a referendum

Corporal punishment for kids (I doubt it)
National Service (Quite possibly)
Hunting banned (Quite right too, isn’t it already?)
Scotland leave the Union (I don’t think enough Scots would go for that, they’re Nationalistic, but not dumb)
NI merge with Eire (U.K. might go for it, but I don’t think that the Irish in the south would be happy)
Cornwall self governing (Would anyone outside of Cornwall care one way or the other?)
Yorkshire have its own Parliament (You really have to be kidding)

etc

Just cause something would win in a referendum doesnt mean its a good thing.

There is massive public support for being able to smack kids again. Similar correlation to those in favour of bringing back hanging or castrating pedos (another thing which would be likely to win a referendum if put to the public.

Hunting I meant all including grouse, partridge, deer etc. I didnt specify fox hunting.

Well recent polls suggest a majority of Scotland would and the majority of the Tory party dont care if Scotland and NI leave the union as "that was a price worth paying for Brexit". English people dont seem to mind if they leave either. Shrugs

Cornwall have been going on about more self governing powers for years and so have Yorkshire. The Yorkshire Party stood on this platform and is currently the 6th most popular party in England. Most people in Yorkshire would back regional devolution and have a Yorkshire democratically elected assembly.

I don't think it should be banned, if I want to walk around in a balaclava all day long then I should be allowed. What I think should be banned is the forced repressive use of a facemask by a group of people on females to signify authority / dominance based on historical fiction.
Is banning that the same as banning the device they use to achieve this?

Good luck getting served in a shop then, stupid argument... The countries that have banned it are spot on.

I find it hard to believe that there is massive support for smacking kids, but I don’t know enough about the feelings on the subject of the majority of the population.
Going on a straw poll of my nieces/nephews who have young children, and my own kids talking about their kids, none of them would dream of smacking their kids.
I never laid a glove on my two, but my mother could have qualified for a position as a Nazi concentration camp guard when I was a kid, she once dropped a hot iron on me when I was playing under her feet while she was ironing!
I ragged her mercilessly about it when I was older, but I believed her when she swore blind that it had been an accident.
I’d like to think that the majority of Brits WOULDN’T bring back hanging, but I wouldn’t be over surprised if they wanted it.
I jumped too quick with my thoughts on hunting, thinking only of foxes and stags, my bad.
Yorkshire doesn’t come into my thoughts at all, it’s a bit like North Korea, I know where it is, but I don’t care what it’s like, and I’ve no desire to go there.

There's a different between a rule that says it must be removed for identification in shops and wearing it in public. Banning it does not make it clear which they have chosen to do it for? Religious reason or identification reasons.

I would take my balaclava off in a shop but why should I be allowed to wear it in the street.

if you take it off in the shop and you don’t think you should be allowed to wear it in the street, where will you be wearing it. IRA gatherings? Whilst out breaking and entering?

What's to stop criminals simply moving around under a niqub in full? Also hiding an weapon in full cover. Some probably do tbh. It's basically an anonymity suit which no one is allowed to look under.

I meant to type shouldn't... My point is, what is the reason for the ban. Identification or breaking a religious ideal that could be victimising someone, why draw the line at clothing, what about circumcision etc, aka all the stupid ideas religion pushes on people.

However if I choose to burka or whatever, then how's that any different to wearing a full bear customer constantly.

I hope you see my point that it's the not the material or the wearer, it's the idea that your being forced, but how can anyone tell that. I might be being forced by a person or forced by my own religious beliefs..

Seems silly to ban it to be honest, if you can say what the reason is your banning it.

That's right about not having to wear it for religious reasons, but many are forced to wear it through societal and family reasons as you say.
