Symbian 3 + Nokia N8 = WOW!

To be fair to the 5800, it wasn't great when it came out but has had a ton of firmware upgrades, and in the last 6 months or so became a surprisingly well-featured phone - bearing in mind it was a free upgrade on most contracts 18 months ago. Obviously the Android/Iphones smartphones are better but they are also considerably newer and more expensive too.

That said, its an uphill battle for Nokia as Android has really developed well but who knows.

Depending on reviews, I probably get one within the next 3-4 weeks as an upgrade. Didn't preorder as it seems a ripoff at £429.

If you're after just the black one, tesco have it for just £329.99 on PAYG and you can unlock for £20 immediately so that works out as £350! http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.209-8479.aspx

anyone getting one of these, launch is next week if the above is true or the week after.

If nokia could produce the N8 (or even N9), but using Android, and preferably a bit more powerful hardware to match the other phones, they would be onto a winning phone! However, I doubt Nokia will ever do that, so for their sake I hope Symbian 3 (and then Meego etc) and good!

£430 - 10% quidco = £387 for any colour of your choice plus at least a week earlier than any other retailer. also tesco is sold out at that price.

type nokia into quidco's search engine - it will then give you alink to nokia's official site.

make sure you have deleted all your cookies before using quidco.

also set quidco up to pay directly into your bank account, paypal is crap.

oh i forgot - quidco charges you £5 a year from your earnings. so if your going to buy anything online make sure you check quidco first to get your moneys worth.

most of the top websites are on it. ive been a member since june 2007 and earned over £700 in cashback.

In the basket, it still shows the N8 at £429 so is it that I pay the full price and they refund 10% later?

yes its cashback,

what happens is you use the link on quidco's site to refer you to your chosen retailer.

for this instance nokia. it tracks your transaction with nokia @ £429.

Quidco then send nokia a bill at the end of the month for their 10% referrer's fee. Nokia then take 1 month to pay the referrer fee to quidco. Then quidco take another month to pay it to you.

It is a long winded process and it does take ages for you to get your cashback, but its better than nothing. so dont expect to see your £43 for at least a month.

take a look around the quidco site and read its FAQ, you will understand the system a lot better that way.

i got a funny feeling Nokia don't want to admit they shouldn't have bought Symbian so are still clinging onto it, but one day very soon will announce a trial of an andoird os. unless i read it wrong they've got a new ceo so i hope he isn't too proud to say that they'll be switching over. nokia make great phones and paired with andoird os they'll do great.

as a side thought, do motorola still sell phones? it's been years since i've seen anyone with one and i never hear about them any more.

Nokia won't make an Android phone. In terms of profit, Android is a race to the bottom. Nokia doesn't want to end up in the position that PC manufacturers eventually got into. Maybe it's inevitable but you can't fault Nokia for trying.

They pretty much withdrew from Europe completely but they still make phones. The amount of people they made redundant is astonishing. Motorola is a much smaller company these days.

Surely they see Meego as the way forward for them?

They think Symbian 3 is the way forward. it hasnt even been launched yet. if you look at the youtube videos it looks as if they have basically copied most other smartphones, but did it their own way.

As long as they can now keep up with the rest (they used to be behind) i think they will be fine.
