System Shock 2 to come to GOG

Er...you drag it onto the weapon you want to perform preventative maintenance on. Make sure you have at least one point of Maintenance skill in order to use it :D

You might be getting mixed up broken and worn weapons though. If a weapon is jammed, you need the repair skill to get it working. Maintenance tools just raise the condition of a weapon (ie. terrible, poor etc).

lol :D

The weapon is not broken, when I drag it onto the weapon in my inventory it simply replaces what I am holding if that makes sense ie instead of dragging the tool I am now holding/dragging the weapon about. If the weapon is equipped it simply does nothing.

I initially thought it was because I was dragging around a stack of 2 maintenance tools, so would like to know how to split the stack.

I am reasonably sure I am not being a complete muppet with it, but am prepared to eat humble pie! :)

Maintenance skill of 2, trying to use a tool on a pistol, condition 2, (not broken/jammed). Right click left click every other click, it doesn't want to do it. Surely my maintenance skill is high enough?

EDIT - Turns out it is a multiplayer related glitch! - I fired up a single player game and tested it, drag and drop works fine. In multiplayer the game has glitched and when I examine the multi-tool it gives me the description of research software V1! lol

I dropped the item, picked it up again and it works as advertised. Sorry for wasting your time, hopefully this info will be of some tiny use to anyone playing multiplayer games.

Finished this tonight! Awesome game, it felt nicely handcrafted and very claustrophobic.

Got stuck/lost in a couple of places so had to refer to walkthrough guides, but still a nice game nonetheless.

Guys,

I just bought this game and it wont run on my pc :/

It gives an error saying video hardware not supported.

Is this a multiscreen issue?

Might as well give specs

I7 2600k
Nvidia GTX 670 with 310.54 drivers
4 screen setup but it should load on the primary like any other game right?

edit/ This was fixed by going to windowed mode :D

If anyone is feeling lazy I have just installed nearly all the updated graphics mods, the updated sound mod and SecMod (which includes the Straylight fixes and additional weapons/crafting options).

I've 7zipped my DataPermMods folder and uploaded it to my website:

The first archive is for first time players. It overhauls the graphics only (no SecMod).
http://linktart.co.uk/DataPermMods_new_player_friendly.7z

The second archive is for veteran players. In addition to the above it also includes SecMod. Warning: This is somewhat tougher than the original game.
http://linktart.co.uk/DataPermMods_veteran_players.7z

This includes:

SS2 Four Hundred - improves various floor/wall/etc textures.
SHTUP - improves an absolute ton of textures in the game.
Rebirth 02 - Updates lots of the enemy models and textures.
Vurt's mods - updates the space backgrounds, water, 'goo' and other objects.
SHMUP - High quality music versions based on the original game sound track.
SecMod - All of the fixes of Straylight's ADaOB mod, plus new weapons, items and crafting/modding. (Veteran players version only)

All credit obviously belongs to the original mod authors.

I would like to thank you again FrenchTart, so thanks :)

Finally have gotten around to playing this with FrenchTart's mod suggestions. I've also enabled the no respawn mod, too. Cranked up the res, and for such an old game it looks good. The only thing I have noticed, is that for some reason the wrench looks vanilla, so I may have to download that particular weapon model. I'm temporarily using on-board video (HD 4000), but it's handling all of this quite admirably. :)
