T-mobile Pulse - Android touch phone.

I must say, satnav is essential to me but copilot is fine and I'd prefer a satnav I can download maps for. For example, if you need a data connection then tht will be very expensive if you use it abroad.

I'm not bothered about Google Goggles. It may be useful in the future but I really don't need it today.

Well there are other UI features. Such as global voice search which can interact with applications. Better google marketplace app. Other smaller UI differences and speed improvements introduced in 1.6 and 2.0.

Also Bigsy, the 2.0 browser faster than the 1.5 browser. On my 1.5 phone I find Dolphin slower than the normal browser. So the new browser will leave it even further behind.

The 2.0/2.01 update is definitely worth having.

ok so ive got the htc touch hd and to be honest i hate it, its a faf getting around and the touch screen is annoying, but i do like the sound of this pulse.
would you guys recommend swapping and going to the pulse?

I want to unlock the phone for my O2 SIM, and also put on the custom ROM from Modaco. Is there an order to do this in or does it not matter?
I unlocked my phone first and then put the ROM on it.It probably won't make any difference but it worked that way for me.
Some people have said that battery is poor,I think it's alright.
I charged the phone up on friday night.I keep background data off but i've used my phone a fair bit since then.Downloaded a few things from the market, sent a few texts, made a 1/2 hour phone call.Messed about with it seen as it's a new toy:p.I do turn my phone off when I go to bed but the battery is still at 57%

Yeah, I got mine to do 5 days of moderate use before reaching 10%. I schedule data and syncs with "locale" app, so, on weekdays it turns my bluetooth on automatically before I get to my car and go to work, turns wifi on and syncs email and stuff in the morning before I travel then turns off wifi and sync and remains in 2g mode until get back home. This saves huge amount of power, as when you travel by car, train or tube the phone would constantly look for connections and switch between masts and 3G/edge coverage and eat up battery like nuts. Sync while I travel can be scheduled as well, it doesn't matter if it's in 2g mode via GPRS, it's not like I'm going to browse forums while I'm driving...

My only new complaint is the speed of the phone. I haven't noticed that at the beginning but over the last few days I can't help but notice, some things are just slooooooow. I enter address book, go through few contacts, type an email, send it, press red button to get back to the main "desktop". Screen goes dark, one second, three seconds, two buttons at the bottom appear, five seconds, seven seconds, ten.. ridiculous. I think I'm going to try that unofficial OS software with swap and stuff.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, as i haven't used locale before, but can you use it to schedule gmail and google calendar sync, say, once a day at a certain time? Is that what you have?

I say this as I use gmail and calendar, but don't want a constant connection. I just want to schedule syncs, but thus far I haven't discovered how to do this.

There is a plugin for locale on the market (free) that lets you disable sync for many conditions: battery life, location etc etc these include time.

Is it possible to plug in the Pulse to the USB socket and access the Micro SD card through the PC? It's not working for me, so am I missing an option/setting somewhere?

Pull the menu down from the top of the screen where the USB icon is and the connection details will be show, touch the listed USB connection and then select 'mount'.

Edit : Whilst your using it like this I don't think the phone can access it, you need to dismount it again before the phone will see it again.

Loving this phone so far, still using the t-mobile sim at the moment but will be changing to my O2 sim when the credit runs out. I've tried the O2 sim and it works for making calls etc but doen't work for the internet. I assume this is a settings problem, can anyone point me in the right direction to change the settings so 3g and the net work.

Thanks for your help.

You just need to setup your APN settings as per: http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=297715&view=findpost&p=1134723

Still people having issues with MMS (works fine for some) but this is an issue for most networks on a lot of android devices.

Installed the MoDaCo Custom ROM on this yesterday.
Took a bit of work to get it properly set up (instructions are available), but runs so smoothly now, compared to when it was running the stock T-Mobile ROM. You also get the 'bottom menu' back, which I really missed on the stock ROM.

Sounds good. What do you lose compared to the T-Mobile ROM and what do you gain? More speed sounds good though!

You need more than 3 desktops? Really?

I think there are a few home replacements that let you have more, maybe try dxtop.

Just found my first problem with the pulse, but not sure its a pulse problem, if that makes sense :)

Tried to download co-pilot from the market but am not able to pay for it because there doesnt seem to be a way to enter a / between the month and year in the date, keeps coming up invalid date :( Am I missing something here?
