T-mobile Pulse - Android touch phone.

Super responsive screen, general responsiveness is good, the interface is spot on and the thing runs flawlessly. Use an Application Killer and you'll see the battery life increase greatly.

i use TasKiller free with the red android icon with the skull and cross bones on the belly. kills everything automaticaly that you dont need when the screen is turned off. a bit of warning though.. if you dont put the clock in the ignore list, the alarm wont go off. i was late for the work the other day cos of my phone :D

I'm not going to lie, it's pants.

So, for clarification, are people getting their Gmail pushed to the Pulse? T-Mobile reckon it doesn't support it...

Mine worked fine out of the box, using a Modoco custom Rom now. Gmail integration is one of the core features of Android.

What are the advantages of the custom ROM, and is it easy enough to do?

I've got her old G1 sat here I'm playing with too.

The custom rom is easy enough to do.I know bugger all about this sort of thing and I got it working fine.
The rom just gets rid of all the t-mobile rubbish. As i'm not on t-mobile it's no good to me.
I've had the phone a few weeks now and it's definitely the best phone i've had.

I'm interested in getting one of these as it does seem a good price for what is an android phone with a good capacitive touch screen. I'm just wondering if anyone has had any particular problems or if this has any known faults apart from the terrible camera?

Only actual real fault is the screen can be quite unresponsive if your not holding the phone, ie its lying on a table etc, some phones seem to suffer more than others and people have resorted to placing foil in the back cover which touches the usb socket, this fixes the issue.

I personally don't find it much of a problem.

Will the Pulse be able to upgrade to Android 2.0 when it surfaces? 1.5 is nice but the Android platform is still in it's (relative) infancy, the more we can upgrade it the better

Only if t-mobile provide an upgrade to eclair which they are rumored to do so....but wouldn't surprise me if they didn't.

It's looking increasing unlikely that the modding community will come up with a cooked aclair rom as they can't get donut working properly as it is.

I had seen a report that T Mobile in Holland will provide an upgrade to 2.0 but not sure when that will be (or if it will actually happen).

I've been using my Pulse as my main phone for a while and overall I like it. I've unlocked it for my O2 sim, put the December update on it, and then put the MoDaCo custom ROM on. Not sure if it runs much faster as I can't remember how it ran originally but I didn't have any problems with it then.

- The screen can sometimes be unresponsive round the edges
- The camera is quite bad (but I didn't buy it for that, so that's ok with me)
- Battery life is not great - lasts about 36 hours on very light use.

+ Asewome value (cost me £90!)
+ Easy to use
+ Android apps are great
+ Apart from the edges, the screen is quite good

There may be more significant negative points to the positive points, but for me the Android apps make the difference. I got this for £90 as a go-between phone until the Bravo comes out, and it's been well worth it for me. Before I got this, I couldn't decide between an iPhone and Android phone, but now the choice is clear.

Note - this is my first Android phone, so I can't compare the above points to other Android phones or the iPhone. My last phone was the N95 8Gb which I didn't like.
