Tabletop Warhammer?

All right, I'm having a play around with Vassal just to get used to it, and I'm trying to set up my HQ but I don't seem to be able to find a way to add a Jump Pack. I can cycle through the ranged weapons for him, but don't seem to have any options for Wargear. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I don't know if anyone here has heard anything about this but it appears that GW legal is getting a little over ambitious about the trying to take over the Space Marine trademark in books. Basically they sent a letter to Amazon to pull an authors book because it was about Space marines (not the GW marines, but generic space marines as per Aliens, Heinlien etc).
GW seem to think they were the first people to use the term, rather than it being a generic name for armies in space (as seen right back as far as the 30's).

Yeah I read about that, I really hate what is happening to GW, the company seems to be getting worse and worse (Black Library in particular has just fallen apart and started ripping off it's customers as much as it can)

Gah, which model is it?

Some models don't have every option, in which case just write it in model information if needed or tell your opponent)

In this case, Chaplain, however I've also tried it with a Captain and Chapter Master. I'm guessing this won't limit me to only being able to move him 6" in a game, then?

No of course not, Necrons for example can't show any of their wargear for characters!

Or you could use a blood angels chaplain model, they have the option for jump packs.

Ah, okay. That's cool, I just didn't want to end up with a Chaplain that was limited to footslogging around the board! :p

Thanks Shami. :)

Yeah, I've been following the thread over on Warseer about it. It's really low; I could understand it more if it had anything to do with their IP, but as you say, there are plenty of references to them outside of the Warhammer 40,000 universe and it's a pretty logical assumption that marines in space might well be labelled, uh...space marines. This is, sadly, not something that surprises me about the company any more, which is a shame. I'd like them to realise that there are a lot of problems with the organisation and maybe start taking a look at other, friendlier companies out there as an example of how to do it right.

Edit: Right, now I have my test army ready for Sunday. I just hope I've made some half-decent choices! :D

GW are nothing but profiteers now.

I have zero respect for the company (mainly over the black library fiasco) but just in general with the insane price increases.

They'll eventually price themselves out of the market. I no longer collect and despite being tempted by it prices are too much. I can't see many kids being able to get into it anymore so they will rely on older gamers collecting forever which seems a little unlikely.

Program's like Vassal nicely undermine the need to buy models and still be able to play (hurrah!) and if other companies can grow their base hoe gully GW will be forced into a price review. Won't happen anytime soon though. :(

Horrid company and your link is just another example of it.

Also you can put unsele five gear on a model note so people know (I had to do this Sunday with my crisis suits)

Errmmm.... anyone got a guide on how to use Vassal?? It seems I have installed the 40k module but not sure where to go from there.

Wouldn't it be easier if we just had a Dawn of War tournament? :p

Yes I did get called a hacker a lot :p

I'm free tomorrow night if anyone wants me to come on Mumble and explain Vassal to them. Will only take 20 mins tops. Probably a good idea to be familiar before your first battle!

I will gladly take you up on that offer if I don't get anywhere tomorrow. :)

I take it, mumble will be used for voice chat during games?

Yes, it's easy to set up and there is a OCUK server. I wouldn't even want to try a game without voice chat, would involve a lot of typing! You need to declare what you're doing before every dice throw basically.
