Tabletop Warhammer?

I keep eyeing up Airbrushes and Models... MUST STOP!

Tell me about it. I'm now reading up on all those blog and forum posts pointing out what to look for, what to avoid etc. and looking at reviews for airbrushes and compressors. I'd have to build some kind of fold-away booth to put an extractor in, though, because we don't have a garage any more. :(

Got an idea.

To build lordhughes home built spray booth you will need

You will need:
A Tent

1 or 2 desk fans

An extension cord (length may vary)

assembly

1. pop the tent up in your garden.

2. run the extension cord outside.

3. plug in fans and place strategically to remove air from tent.(may involve cutting holes in tent.)

4. turn on fans.

5. spray.

Simple! :P

How are you finding painting the incubi? I have just put in a order of them and some wracks!

Time consuming because I'm out of practice, fine lining the armour is taking forever :p Also black and white armour is tricky, I think the white looks ok but I'm not happy with the black really. I'll do some more WIP shots at some point.

Yeah I have never done fine lining before but I have a full squad of warriors to practice first (without arms for easy access) what undercoat have you gone black or white.

I have gone white for my warriors with a black/purple mix for the main armour. Trying to get consistency is a pain!

You don't appear to have accounted for the part of this where I die... :p

Quick question about necrons and posion weapons, do they still work with them being machine nd everything? I just know my mate is going to kick up a fuss if they do work against them (hes like that)

Yes.

I believe an older book or FAQ specifically dealt with that and told people to pretend that it was some kind of acid or something instead of poison.

Yes they do, provided they aren't in vehicles of course :p

I undercoated bodies and arms black and helms white, reversed for the leader.

I only attached the heads, painting the arms separately so I can access the chest armour easily.

You can get a cheap extractor for about £80 that vents out the window (my brother has one as an indoor one, but hasn't used it yet).

Or one that's semi professional/suitable for use in schools etc, which is about £250 or so :( (this is what we've got in our garage).

Although at that sort of price it's almost worth looking at the price of a cheap shed, and making do with some old clothes and a respirator.

Airbrushes are great for doing large models, or base coating lots of models, and let you try all sorts of fun things, but it can be very expensive to start off with (unless you can split the cost with someone).

Our current setup looks a little like this (I've got better lighting again, as this was taken just after I moved over to a new Ikea desk).

Yeah, I've looked around and it seems that a compressor and decent airbrush could run from £300-400. I do plan on doing a lot of painting this year, though, so I'm just trying to weigh up whether or not it would be a good investment. It would certainly be great for the priming and basecoating, and I'd like to make up some small stencils so that I could airbrush on stuff like Chapter and squad markings because I'm really not great at doing that kind of thing freehand. Also, if I buy the Dark Eldar list that I'm currently running for this tournament, that's a lot of vehicles to paint... :p

Sadly a shed isn't an option for me, as it isn't my house, so I'd have to either make do with something outside on the patio or else in my room with a suitable booth (I'll take a look in to the ones you mentioned - do you have a link to the one your brother uses?). :(

It's looking like my Kantor Blue test model is looking more like the colour that I want under indoor lighting, but I'm not sure how it will look in daylight. I get the feeling I'm going to have to make a tough decision here. :o :p

Hey Clarty, I have to pop out after work tonight and won't be home till between 8 and 9 so we can either start the game then or can do it at some point over the weekend instead.

Sorry
