Tabletop Warhammer?

Added another file we may need.

Made my csm list tonight :) a bit heavy but may kick some ass :p

Now to read the 5th editiomn rules.

Ok if anyone wants to try a game tonight you need to make sure you've installed Vassal and the 40k 5.4f module (guide here)

Then you need to create an army list and set it up in Vassal (Guide here) Have an army list saved in notepad as well as you will need it. We're going to try 1000 points first.

It also might be a good idea to read this tutorial. It runs you through one turn on Vassal so you can get an idea how things work.

I've hosted all the information you should need on my Dropbox, please email me if you'd like access :)

I think we're also going to use the PC gaming mumble (details in sticky in PC forum) for chat so you might want to set that up if you haven't got it.
 
It would be good to see what others have put in their army list mind, I have sent an e-mail in trust to get accesss lol

I am new to army building so any tips would be great - I currently have the CSM Battleforge Pack and the Chaos Part of the Vengance pack with a Deamon Prince HQ

+ Warp Talons and extra Cultists

I need some sort of Heavy
 
Any of you watch any painters vids or hobbiest stuff online such as Miniwargaming, BeastsOfWar, BlueTablePainting?

Find them pretty interesting and are a good way of getting some ideas and inspiration for things. Watching a channel called AwesomePaintJob I picked up that watering it down on a 1:1 makes it so much better for applying the paint and while it looks pants while wet drys to give a nice smooth finish rather than the uneven finish I was getting before as we as him actually showing the layering, blending and dry brushing techniques he uses which seems to be pretty rare for Pro painters to give these tips away.

Need to pick up a few other things after watching these videos and give them a whirl.

I have been doing exactly the same as you, I also found the how to paint minitures full length dvd on the tube!

My paint skill has increaed and I now like looking at my models on the shelf because of it

I did 2 models just by dunking paint brush in and lathering it on the model which attempting to get some detail and at first I was quite proud by my second model but then after seeing others I just felt :(

So far my 3rd model looks leagues ahead of my previous one, I think one of my main factors holding me back is the brushes I am using (standard Citadel ones that I have had for years and have seen better days) but Cannot afford to replace these until payday next Friday lol.
 
I went to the works and found a set for 2 pound which is working loads better than the usual Citadel ones, but in the future when I get better at painting I might invest in some of the brushes mentioned earlier. It’s all about taking your time, they are going to progressively get better the more you practice
 
To practice your painting try a less detailed model too. Buy a Rhino or cheap tank and try painting smooth panels and practice shading etc. Does not have to be GW obviously and could be anything at all.

2 things I won't cheap out on are brushes and paints. They make a major difference in how you apply paint to a model and how well it flows and dries etc.
 
Been reading a lot of people use flow agents etc and mix that with the paints instead of water, May give it a go and see.
 
I use 2 different ones. Lahmian Medium by Citadel helps to get a smooth finish and good old fashioned cheap as you can Tesco dishwasher rinse agent for preventing drying and helping flow. As long as it has surfactants in it you should be good.
