Tabletop Warhammer?

@roman59 brilliant job! The more I see the model the more I love it. Love the way they made the Axe of Morkai so prominent.
Thanks !

I was really worried that I would mess up the axe for that reason, all I used on the blade was an all over coat of Gryph Hound Orange, Flesh tearers red over 3/4 of blade from the sharp edge in, Sigvald Burgandy over 1/2 of the blade from the sharp edge in and finally Cygor Brown over the sharp area on the axe, all the contrast paints were wet blended.

My brother went to his yearly wargaming last week, and i think they pushed the boundaries of what could be called tabletop warhammer.

They played a game of titanicus, using 40k scale models.
It required the use of a 16x16 foot deck, and for scenery things like an old upside down glass fibre fishpond as a hill.

For someone who hasn't p-layed Wathammer 40k since 1st edition. what's the best way to get started? I don't mind buying the core rules and maybe 1 faction book,. but don't want to spend 100s and 100s on miniatures. Where do I start? what's the easiest army faction to start with?

LOL.

I get it, I don't mind spending the money eventually, just not at the start, I'd rather get a grasp of things before committing too hard :) .

Before I write anything requiring effort, do you have a place near you to play the game or people in a friend group already do? I assume from your wording the intention is to play, and you wouldn't want to invest money and effort into it if you find out the nearest wargaming club is 100 miles away I doubt.

If you do have a hobby store/gaming club near you have a look if they let you borrow/rent armies, you could then play a few demo games to get a feel for it and then decide on the other stuff.

Defiantly wanting to play, there are several stores near me that run games, I DM a D&D session weekly at one of them and noticed on other nights they host 40k Games. I'm not sure if they rent things, but I can look into that.

You'll likely find people have multiple armies too and will happily get someone up to speed. The minimum you need is 500 points which can still be quite a big investment, and tbh I don't know many people who play 500 points, the official app starts at 1000 for example. A unit of say 10 bog standard Assault Inercessor space marines is 90pts towards that 1000, and one box is like £30-£40 here.

There's also Kill Team which is a much smaller scale skirmish game based on 40k, you can get a kill team for like £30-40 (they tend to be 5-10 models), and probably core rules or whatever for much much less. It's a really fun game tbh and quite a bit more tactical than 40k in areas. Plus you can usually use the units in 40k too, for example I got the Nemesis Claw (Night Lords) and I can use that as part of a regular Chaos Space Marine army in 40k.

I watched about 50 YouTube videos and I think Kill Team will be the best way for me to start.. now I just need to decide which team to buy :)

Whichever one you think looks the coolest is always the answer :)

Agree with this sentiment, if it looks coolest to you or the lore (if you're that way inclined) grabs you in and interests you then you'll have a much more enjoyable time assembling, painting and playing that army.

Good start. I started trying a salamander scheme yesterday with a green ink but I sprayed it on too thick and completely killed pre shade. I'm going to try and recover it by spraying a darker contrast in the shadows and see how that looks
