Just nuke it so it atomises and then there's no falling debris to worry about.

The US has a mountain of those Air-to-Air nukes that were meant to be used against bomber groups that could easily deal with this trashy balloon.

It's time for the US to just base nukes on Taiwan.
On the one hand it might prevent an invasion, bit it would essentially be a rerun of the Cuban missile crisis... China would be extremely unhappy, and I imagine there would be a huge amount of domestic and international opposition too given the potential for escalation... I don't think I'd have the balls to give that order!

Well a slightly softer approach would be to base a significant US military force on the island instead with options to draw down/up depending on Beijing's rhetoric. If Taiwan falls then Korea will obviously come to the conclusion that treaty they have is probably worthlless.

Agree this will just escalate things. China is going to go about this like the US did back then. They see Taiwan as hostile and will go all in on them if they have to. Well defended islands are very hard to invade. As long as there is a big enough defensive force there and there’s enough support coming from elsewhere then China will just be sending a lot of troops to the bottom of the sea.

Seriously though get an F16 up to 50000 feet with a genie strapped on and obliterate it.

I really don't get why they're giving the republicans such an easy narrative.
