Taiwan and China thread.

It's a bizarre response. Like they wouldn't have the same thing?

My only other comment on this story is why on earth did it take so long for them to shoot it down? I would have ordered it downed the moment it was in US airspace, not when it was already across most of it and on it's way out??

Balloon Lives Matter.

There’s probably more to this than is being let on. I expect they wanted to observe what the balloon was doing and what measurements it was trying to take.

Well it is a good job you arent in charge then isn't. There are a myriad of things to think about before just blasting it out of the sky.

I'll trust the US intelligence services and airforce to have more of a grasp on the situation than a random on OCUK forum.

Hilarious how they can't get their story straight. First was that there were balloons that flew over under Trump but didn't alert him (treason?), now it's we didn't detect them but we know many times it happened!

I'm not sure I'd pay too much attention to Zero Hedge tbh. AFAIK there hasn't been an incident like this recently, previous incidents were likely far less egregious, in this case, the balloon transited across a big chunk of the US and was clearly visible, then again they could track it and anticipate its path/limit what it was going to be able to collate + it would have been risky to shoot down over land.

A "high-altitude object" has been shot down over Alaska in the past hour, the White House has said.
Spokesman John Kirby said the object was "the size of a small car" and was over a sparsely populated area at the time.

Interesting development

I find the claim these are all Chinese spy balloons/drones astonishing.

Where were they before? Why wouldn't China recall them if one was compromised?

If its a nation state and now 3 have been shot in one week can't the US say its at a state of war?

If its spying, we know both sides play the same game and have been for decades why the publicity?

Could it be a third player trying to instigate a conflict?
**** knows, too many questions

You would think that they would identify what they're shooting down before they shoot it down, I wonder what they are when they refuse to call them balloons

Well they have images and visual reports from pilots regarding the second object.

Something I read on a OSINT twitter

"Some of the F-22 Pilots who Tracked the Aircraft that was downed over Alaska yesterday said that it “Interfered with their Sensors" and that “They could see No Propulsion Systems on the Aircraft not knowing how it could possibly be staying in the Air”.
