Take ONE, Get TWO - new GIGABYTE upgrade programme

While this is great news for the consumer isn't this a huge gamble and possibly even financial suicide for Gigabyte? If everyone who buys the black edition boards exchanges them for new models when the next gen is released then surely Gigabyte will have a black hole in their finances due to no income from next gen boards?

Actually the reality is more likely to be the cost of one of these boards to actually make for gigabyte in the volume they make these is probably about £15

You then buy then for a large mark up.

The advantage of having much more brand power by having everyone buy a gigabyte board is worth more.

If you buy their boards you will buy their GPU's etc.

Also you might see feature creep where more basic features will start to come off the UD3's and move further up the range encouraging you to pay the extra for the board.

It's good business and they would not be doing this if it didn't make serious financial sense for them you can be sure of that.

Great deal this i wonder if the rest of board manufacturers will follow, bad news for overclockers if they did, so you would buy first board off overclockers get your second direct from maufacturer online retailer will lose out.
anyone got either of these 2 what they like?
- GA-Z97X-Gaming G1 WIFI-BK
- GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK
wouldnt mind the gaming g1 but price putting me off,

Well, having the g1, this could be good.

Am I correct in assuming it doesn't matter when I purchased?

And as someone else asked, I guess this doesn't apply to x99?

To be honest, don't really think much of the board, so quite looking forward to trading it in :)

Mostly down to bios I am sure but gigabyte slow in releasing updates...

How is the upgrade option decided? Another Gigabyte board of the same price paid originally?

So if I bought a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK, in 2 years I could then swap this for a LGA 1151, Z170/H170 chipset (Skylake) worth the same price as I paid for the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK?

Yes that is the plan or if you wait longer and it's within the 3 year you could even upgrade to the generation after Skylake.

Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H-BK

Just bought it, the mobo is great , well made add stable, not like my previous asus which had some issues with my other components ( blue screens , restarts, drivers problems), nothing like that with Gigabyte. APP Center is so easy and allows to download and install newest BIOS in a minute.
5 year warranty and free upgrade to new motherboard in the future is a awesome idea!! Why buy other if we may get so much from Gigabyte? I love it!!!!!! Great job guys!!!

Yeah that's how I read it too. It screams desperation, but I'd be surprised if they are desperate.
