Talk to me about E60's

This one has chrome around the windows and a dechromed car will not like mine.

I'm pretty sure all M-sports come with black shadowline(either matt or high gloss) which is no chrome.

Anyone find some good examples of cars with the right spec?

Budget is 20k, can't really go higher and needs to be diesel although not too fussed on which one as I do a boring 100 mile a day m6 commute.

I know Cargiant has a reputation but theres a few on there, 05 525d M Sport Auto, ~£17k, something wrong with this surely?!

Theres quite a few on bmw.co.uk have you looked there? You also get 1 yrs warranty then for peice of mind. If your happy with the 2.0 derv then you can get an 06 one with 14k miles(didnt look at the spec). 525/530 are a bit more or older.

Edit: saying that the only M-sports the are 520ds is it an M-Sport you are after?

I would only want a 535d or a 530d at a real push

personally i would check out no 3 more closely.

there are a fair few 535ds about, good thing is most of them have the right spec.

Dont bother with the 2.0 i believe it's 4 cyl, it was rattly and let down the car when I borrowed one for a day.

And don't get the SE either, especially with that nasty steering wheel, doesn't handle too well either compared to the sport model

comfort seats are ****ing awesome. cannot recommend them enough
and yes, i am fat :o

also, if you're not really fussed about having a 520d, i don't see the point in getting a 535d..
it'll be older, in worse condition (probably) and no doubt cost more to insure (and tax?)
i'd say fully loaded 525d or maybe 530d

as stated elsewhere in this thread, you want professional satnav and the 13-speaker system
and comfort seats ;)

535 is just going to be too much in respect of mpg so want to keep it to 520, 525 or 530.

As I say I'm merely going up and down the M6 each day so dont need bundles of bhp that will never get used :D

Did you have a 520d or a 320d? I'm still going to test drive the entire range to see how each engine sounds and feels so I'll not discount anything until I've tried it!

I have driven a
320d SE
520d SE
525d Sport
I would never go for an SE that's for sure. Go for a 525d sport, although analyse the fuel consumption of each car closely, the bigger engines may be more economical for your usage.

Log book will state SE/Sport, plus the Sport has Anthracite headlining (black basically) that the SE doesn't, I believe.

You could subsequently pay for the dealer to fit the stuff as an accessory but practically speaking 0.01% of people actually do this.

The body kit isnt the same between an M5 and M-sport. As well as the other bits you mentioned it also has different front wings. I agree though its a bit pointless, plus you will look stupid sitting at the lights with the deisel clatter coming from what looks like an M5.

My neighbour has an e60 M5, a ridiculously impressive car. Looks quite different to an e60 520d M sport which another guy in the same street has.

Thinking of doing something like changing a standard e60 to look like an M5, just because it will look more individual than a standard car. And i can confirm that genuine M5 front bumpers are wider than M sport, thus requiring wider wing panels thereby achieving the more agressive look

Probably start with a 525d or 530d manual and go from there, ecu remap, sprint booster (if they actually work, opinions needed), lowered 20 -30mm, the correct staggered 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 front to rear M5 alloy wheels, get rid of the run flats and uprate a few engine parts. All in all i reckon you could get a 530d to do a 0-60 run in about 6.0 secs (standard 235bhp is officially 6.8s). A good driver could keep up with an M5... until the M5 driver hit the 'M' button, he'd smoke the 530d after that.

Plus 44mpg (officially) versus what my neighbour reports to be 13mpg for his M5 is a big bonus.

Saying that, i would just get the bodykit and front wing vents because i like the look. No M5 badge on the back or anywhere else, thats a bit daft.

Here's an example of what I don't want to do, a bit OTT with M badges dripping of every lever, facet and panel.

Not to my tastes but each to their own i guess.

Can someone please tell me why a 'de-chromed' BMW is the better and more expensive option? I didn't think chrome looked at all bad and thought it made the car look better. And then it's phrased as de-chromed implying it's an option taken off the car?
