Talking to someone who claims they will kill their-self if

but you are, if even just indirectly or unintentionally.

you're stated opinion is that if someone threatens to kill themselves 99% of the time they don't. don't you see how dangerous a viewpoint that is to take? i knew someone (not a close personal friend but i knew them all the same) who made several of these cry for helps by threatening to kill themselves. eventually they did. but that doesn't mean i'm going to claim that 99% of people who threaten to kill themselves will.
it's far too simplistic and indeed dangerous to say that someone who threatens to kill themselves won't, because if people start to believe that then those people who make those threats are going to be treated like the boy who cried wolf.

And in most cases the boy who cried wolf is accurate, that's not to say I would just ignore them, I absolutely wouldn't, but I know how this is going to play out, sure there are outliers/exceptions, as is the case in anything/everything. I had a friend recently who passed away from multiple organ failure at the age of 39, not from suicide but just outright personal neglect and despite multiple attempts to talk them into getting help, they CHOSE to ignore that advice and just carried on with the drugs/drink. From my experience if someone doesn't want to be helped, there's absolutely nothing you can do. Should I have just not bothered wasting my time with them, no I'm still going to try because they are a friend.

you're going to have to post some evidence to back this up because i just can't believe that 99% or a significantly high percentage of people who are struggling with life and threaten to kill themselves are just crying wolf. i'd actually like to find out that is the case but i just don't believe it.

as to the rest of your post i'm not sure it's really relevant to your initial claim but i do agree that for sure there are people who just don't want to be or can't be helped but doesn't mean we shouldn't try and help them.

I'm not sure anyone has bothered to do the research just to see if the boy did indeed did cry wolf.
