Talks continue to save Woolworths

I'm sad because my thread got locked, but happy because I can go Woolworths sale shopping! Yay. Life is in balance again.

Sad to see them go. They've been in my town of Wealdstone for as long as I can remember. Bejams and Woolies were the big boys of my town, alongside Safeways.

I go into Woolies every day on the way home from work but rarely buy anything. It has become a glorified poundsaver shop with about 60% cheap sweets/chocs, and the rest consisting of cheap DIY tools, overpriced games & cd's and a rechargeable battery selection to last me years.

The only long standing store left in my town is Iceland now, which used to be Bejams.

I remember as a kid going to Woolworths with my mum and cramming as many sweets in the pic'n'mix cup as I can. :D

I went in there today to pick up Wall-E and it felt odd, like they were getting ready to pack everything up for recievership. :(

Great cheap flatpack as well! Gonna be a cheap Christmas shop this year :D
MFI have been out of the cheap flatpack game for a while. That was a large part of their problem - people still think of Pronto flatpack when anyone mentions MFI, when in reality they haven't done that for years.

Really sad to see them both go, but it's no surprise. MFI has been a basket case for years and Woolies lost the plot. :(

My mum used to buy me a Corgi Matchbox car from our local Woolworths every week when I was a kid.

Bought my first vinyl record from there too, "Nothing's gonna stop us now" by Starship.

Woolworths is full of filthy chav's these days - i cant stand the place. Filty dirty stinking chavs.

that is all.

Must just be the town you live in is overrun with chavs as the woolies in my town is / was nothing like that.

that is all.

Good news. I live in a small town and theres a finite amount of space for shops, if woolies goes they might put something useful in its place :) *please no starbucks*

Says Cardiff on your Location

Bad news here, I do live in a small town. Without Woolies there's no place in a 30+ mile radius that sells any of the following...

Video games (PC/Wii/360/PS3/PSP/DS... you name it)
BluRay
DVD

Hmm... I'm sure there are a fair few other things that wouldn't be available around here if Woolies weren't around.
