Tattoo Thread. Post a picture!

So you're going to spend twelve months plus in Japan...?

Christ on a bike...

Firstly, the only Japanese tattooists who will touch you are the kind of scratchers who give tourists a 30 minute katakana and send them on their way. They won't be able to do 'Japanese' tattoos.

Secondly, even if you do find a proper artist, they won't touch you because you're a foreigner.

Thirdly, if you spend enough time getting to know the artist, living near them, befriending them and gaining their trust, you will have to wait months or years for a booking.

Fourthly, look at the equivelant of £200 and above per hour.

Fifthly, the method is much more painful and much slower than 'western' tattooing. You're looking at 60+ hours per arm.

You really haven't thought this through have you? I get the distinct impression that you're hung up on some romantic mythology about 'Japanese' tattoos which is many, many miles from reality.

Do you have a couple of years of your life and a five figure sum to spare...?

I've always thought that abotu people who want the full back tattoos with the Koi.

Don't you have to be in particular families? I was under the impression it was like the Japanese version of the gaelic Kilt. Different kilt colours per family.

I have a friend who is a Mauri. He came here to study for a while. His father is a proper Mauri Warrior (never met him of course) but the pictures are awesome. He has those awesome white dot tattoo's all over his face and back that they do with sharp sticks and determination. Again with the being foreign thing though, i'd guess.

Ive always wanted to get the 6 lightening bolts that Robert Deniro has on his stomach in Cape Fear, for some reason i cant find a picture of it on the internet to save my life, ive looked for hours. So if anyone here has it or can find it let me know :)

No, just four. Why would I need over a year in Japan, and £10k for a single sleeve?

Sounds to me like you're being elitist.

he's just saying that if the reason you're going to japan is for a genuine japanese tattoo then it's going to take a lot longer and cost a lot more than you may be expecting, that's if you can get it done

if on the other hand you're more concerned about the culture they've been immersed in then i am sure you could find what you're after although i wouldnt rule out using a japanese artist over here (which you may well pay more for)

They are more the preserve of the Yakuza...Hence tattoos being very much taboo in traditional Japanese culture.

I know a few westeners with Mokos...Not really my kind of thing; could be seen as cultural misappropriation...Much like going for a 'Japanese' tattoo...

It says OcUK in Chinese Traditional

Thats what the guy told you ;):D

Had to chuckle at the "Emma" one after all that fancy artwork :D
Is it his daughters writing or something, or did he do it with a compass and ink cartridge during a particularly dull Geography lesson? ;)

Probably the later. :D

I think he has it cover now with a decent looking one, not sure. He definitely has Chelsea + Emma on his wrist anyway.

and the new one i'm getting done soon to go on my chest, left hand side. I'm an Aquarius but the sign for that is rubbish. In the Chinese zodiac i was born in the year of the tiger with the element of fire! not sure if I want too keep the banner, but if I do i will have text in it reading "subsisto procul nusquam". What are peoples views on banners, or even if it would look better to get the artist to redraw the legs without the banner there?
