Tefals badly planned holiday, coming to a sofa near you...

Route wise I would suggest the Glenshee route / old military road then on to Tomintoul road b976

Im in fife so if you get desperate and need a couch in a small flat then let me know.

I'd love to do this once I get a 600+ cc bike. In regards to camping in random areas, I believe this is illegal in England? I wonder how much it is enforced if you're properly in the sticks.

Have a look on here for your north of scotland bit, its not too different to what you've already got

The very far north east of Scotland is ok but the north west coast is a lot more picturesque with great roads.

I toured it on a bike a few years back. Tongue and Durness were really beautiful.

This.

I`m not on your route but if you are anywhere near SW Scotland and need a kip and refreshments its no prob.

He's Welsh, he doesn't need a reason to hate on England. ;)

I just thought it odd that he's planning on doing every single English coastal county but not Kent (apart from the Kent stretch of the M25). Alright it's not the most picturesque county but there's still stuff worth visiting and doing there - Oysters at Whitstable, Canterbury Cathedral, Leeds Castle etc.

Definitely stop at South Shields when you pass the North East. Great coastal promenade , loads of bikers hangout and drink coffee down the seafront. I love the place on a nice summers day.

Is that the A16 you're going up when you go through Lincolnshire?

It skirts past the Wolds which is about the only nice scenery in Lincs :D There's a little village called Tealby near Market Rasen that is billed as the prettiest village in Lincs, which I was scornful of.....till I went there, it's just picturesque with a beautiful thatched pub.

Anyway, I can offer an (air)bed or couch to crash on for a night if needed, I'm in a little village not too far from A16/Boston (~13 miles)

I'd adjust the Scottish section to include Mallaig to Fort William then down to Oban via Glencoe, very picturesque

Instead of taking the A1 through Northumberland the A697 from Coldstream to Morpeth where it meets the A1 is an option. |It passes through a number of small villages although watch for the speed cameras.

Totally agree.

Kent is a lovely place. It wasn't christened the garden of England for nothing.

If you go round the Kent coast, you can visit Dungeness. Not really picturesque, but a very unusual, sometimes eerie place. It's a huge headland. Just don't be tempted to go in the sea as you will very likely drown.

Your current route after inverness, the scenery is okay but there isn't really much. Thurso is a bit of a dump as well. I would go west instead of north, scenery is stunning and a lot more to see/do.

I can probably offer you a bed sometime, though my town is somewhat crap :(

When you go to down the A1 to Northumberland, divert off to go to Coldingham and Coldingham Sands in Scotland, after the town itself there is a gorgeous little small cove and beach and there is also a very picturesque 20 minute walk which is above the cove/beach with good views that leads you to St Abbs which is a beautiful little fishing village, i know you could bike from one place to the other but the walk itself is stunning.
Also The Holy Island of Lindesfarne, is one of my favourite places on earth, tide depending, it's very popular with bikers as you probably know, i don't know how much actual walking you want to do, but if you fancy a walk while there make sure you do the Lindefarne to North shore walk, very lovely, you could also take the country roads around the Lowick area, some great country views.

when your in south wales goto the castlemartin area, you used to be able to watch the tanks training. This was back in the late 70's early 80's though. Spent a lot of time in pembrokeshire and i love it down there.
