Televising Wimbledon Annoyances (and discussing the tournament itself)

So, she won the US open last year, and wimbledon, aus and french this year. It's a second non calendar grand slam.

She'll have a calendar grand slam if she wins the US open next month.

Also, they really need to make it best of five sets for women's tennis. The women's finals are always a bit of an anti climax as they're generally finished too soon, just as everyone is starting to get into it. I reckon Serena could go five sets with Roger Federer, let alone any woman :p

Serena does hold all four, she won US Open last year, Australian, French and now Wimbledon this year. Doesn't need to be in the same calendar year though. And yes, the four majors really need to be 5 sets for women. Quick 2 sets finals feel a bit cheap really. If women think they are worth equal pay, then they should play 5 sets matches in the slams.

I remember years ago, Serena wanted to be included in the men's game because she probably felt she was so far ahead of any other female player, it wasn't challenging enough. She wouldn't get to 5 sets against any of the better men's players, because she is just not consistent enough, same for all female players. When she is playing well, she is leagues ahead of any other woman, but that inconsistency would see her trounced playing against men.

Gosh Serena makes the womens game so boring and predictable.

I disagree. Serena's inconsistency made that final far more interesting than it would have been if she had played at her best throughout.

When she is playing at a more consistent level, then yes, it is boring, because no one can touch her.

Yeah. Well, I'd love to know how Serena would fare against Murray, Federer or Djoko in at least a best of 3 set match.

I don't really understand that mindset. The same could've been said about Federer a few years ago when he was winning everything but the French yet people wanted him to win more. Serena gets treated differently for no obvious reason.

You can't compare anyone to Fed, he's amazing to watch in every department. Serena is mostly power. But I still can't agree she makes things boring. Surely it's the person getting clobbered that has made it boring.

Because the mindset is that of a man, and sport is for men. Women should be doing the dishes and the ironing, not trying to play tennis. :p

Seriously though, I think in the case of Federer, it's because he makes the game look beautiful and almost effortless. People don't mind watching that over and over, even if it means him winning most of the time.

I don't know if anyone is watching the womens doubles, but my god, one of the pairings are incredibly irritating. Fist pump with high five after every, and I mean every winning point.

Not only that, but one of them doesn't shriek when she hits it, she goes 'AAHHH YAH'

Unbelievably annoying.

Yes it is. I'd prefer listen to Sharapova's grunting compared to that 'HIYA!'. :o

She seems to make the sound after hitting the ball, which makes it worse.

That fist bumping is annoying also. Men's, women's and mixed doubles, they all do it, even after one of them completely ***** a shot up.

Yep. Just tuned in, watched 5 mins and changed the channel. :D

HIYAA!
