Televising Wimbledon Annoyances (and discussing the tournament itself)

Watson is a great player don't get me wrong, but I struggle to rate someone who blew as many chances as she did in that match. Sure, she was a set down to the best female tennis player ever, and she fought back. But you can't waste so many golden chances in such a situation.

Reminded me a lot of a younger Andy Murray who did the same but never to quite this extent. I said this about Watson before because she really struggles between playing sublime tennis and letting her head-game fall to pieces :(

Mate, you were watching a different match to me. No way did heather blow it; Serena was just a bit better when it came to the crunch.

I like watching most sports on TV and look forward to Wimbledon single matches.

One thing which really annoys me is towards the end of a match, especially towards the end of the tournament, is the continual flicking between the player and someone known to the player ie, coach, mother, sister, rabbi, physic guru, psychiatrist, prodigal son, etc etc. It certainly doesn’t make the match any more exciting to me.

Another thing is the continual presence of Virginia (very posh) Wade lording it in an esoteric manner as if she’s the fountain of all knowledge and still playing at the highest level. For goodness sake she last won Wimbledon in 1977.

You forgot mistress :D

But yes, I agree.

Citation needed. A rather large one.

How about one of the best or even one of the most successful?

Unfortunately I couldn't watch the match but from the sounds of it and the highlights I have seen Ms Watson played some of her best tennis ever in the second and third sets so massive credit to her for not giving up after the first set. I hope she kicks on and starts challenging the top players more regularly in the future. I'm sure I'm going to regret this soon but I'm actually feeling vaguely optimistic about British tennis generally at the moment.

Actually they did introduce something call a "biological passport" in September 2014 to help combat PED use. While correlation does not equal causation, it can be noted that Nadal disappeared from the tour for a few months soon after its introduction and since then has been in the worst form of his career. Make of that what you will.

Hrmm interesting wasn't aware of that. Thing is, he didnt look tired in the match with Dusty Brown..he was just making a lot of mistakes. His serve has gone to shot completely..his legendary whipped forehead was all over the place....things just were not working for him...you could see what he wanted his body to do in his shots but he was just missing everything. It must be incredibly frustrating as he knows he should be hitting those lines with ease. I really hope he gets back to his best as i miss the old rafa! :D
