Arsenal are the only league club in England not named after a geographical location.

Were you not originally Woolwich Arsenal ?

I have seen this question used many times in pub quizzes etc , and the answer has always been Port Vale

Yours ( in an argumentative mood )

Won more League Titles than anyone else 50, won more major trophies than anyone else as well over 100.

Who.... Rangers of course.

Might be wrong on this one but I think we were also the only team to remain unbeaten in the Champions League and not win it. The year Marsaille won and got it taken off them for cheating.

Soccer AM Fact

Only professional team with a J in its name St Johnstone.

Rotty is right, Arsenal was originally formed as Woolwich Arsenal, which was basically a team of dockers in the Woolwich area.

No he's not! It was an armament based in Woolwich but wasn't named that to start!

Dial Square

To

Royal Arsenal

Then

Woolwich Arsenal (So for 1891 and 1913 it was named about the location it was in, but never named after it!)

Then it move to North London (Islington) And in the 30's the Underground Station was named Arsenal

Two of the greatest England managers ever had their best years at Ipswich... Sir Alf Ramsey, wins old Division 1 championship with Ipswich in 1962, takes the England job and wins the World Cup in 1966. Bobby Robson won the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981, then went on to do very well as England manager.

That's news to me. :D

ok ok, it was a very loose interpretation of your post :)

btw: the 'Raith' misconception was helped when they beat Bayern Munich about 10 years ago and the commentator uttered the immortal line: "They'll be dancing in the streets of Raith tonight":D

Another fact: Celtic were the first non-latin team to lift the European Cup and they did it with such a dazzling display of attacking football that it saved the sport from the Italian disease of catenaccio. No need to thank us! :D
