Temporary car (Warning: Contains fail)

A lot of people completely miss the point of dirt cheap and dog ugly (But legal) motoring. It is really quite liberating the feeling of not giving a flying **** about what you're driving, you don't worry where you'll park it, you don't really care if it gets dented/scratched/keyed/smashed/torched/stolen.

It will never force you to spend any cash on it for maintenance or repairs unless you really want to (No point spending £200 to repair a £200 car is there?, but £10 may keep it running another Month or two so it's worth it..), it is basically care-free disposable motoring, when the MOT expires you weigh it in and find another one.

Hit the nail on the head there mate. :)

When it's MOT time, it'll be stripped for seats to make a gaming chair, the stereo goes on eBay and the fuel pump in a mate's 216Si as that whines like a mother in law.

The air con condenser is the same as the ZS, and guess what is one thing I need in the work I'm doing? :p

It's mechanically sound, and the rust is non-structural from what I can see. Underneath there is very little rust, which is annoying considering the exterior is so corroded.

Perhaps it was parked in the sea for a couple of years?`

And oi hurf, my life hasn't gone downhill :p I've just moved out, so needed something cheap. It does the job, and it's nice not having to worry about people crashing into it. In fact, I welcome them to do so, as any damage will increase it's value.

Haha, sorry bro, didn't mean it like that! I've been stuck in a 140bhp car for awhile now and whilst I love it, while its taxable reliable and not harming my image, living independently does mean you don't get to upgrade the toys quite so easily, despite wanting to for the past 6 months or so now.

I paid £350 for a 1.6 Primera with only slight rust on it. It had 6months tax and 9months mot. Went through it's next mot ok also. (gone now)

That thing you have actually paid money

I will never understand rover owners lol :p

A member here has just bought a perfectly serviceable Mk2 Mondeo V6 for well under a grand (and I'm sure it had Tax and an MOT).
Just over 4 months T&T. Only thing I can find at fault is a rear numberplate bulb out which I'll sort today.

It was £742 on eBay and I have spent about £250 on it giving it a full service inc. plugs and new discs and pads on each corner. (I also found just under £2 under the seat and a €2 coin!)

I feel a bit ripped off tbh as mine didn't come with the Mastik Pack. Fox always led me to believe GhiaX was top-spec too. ****.

EDIT- ST200 are really great value for money now. I would have stumped up an extra £1k or so for one as it'd likely be immaculate. Insurers didn't want to know me though despite now having 5years NCB.

Every Rover you ever buy lets you down in a huge, huge way. Yet still you keep buying them. You have to rebuild your cars ALL the time.

Seriously, why not just give up and buy something good?

Surely you could have done better even for £250? :p

That's what is confusing me. He could have "easily" done better.

Did you go out and decide to buy the sheddiest nail you could find for your budget with a Rover badge glued to it?

I can see the love and loyalty people have for most brands, but not you and this Rover fetish. You keep on buying them (Not even the "interesting" ones either), they keep on letting you down, but like a battered wife you just keep on going back for more :(.

You need help mate.

I sold my MK6 Escort for £350 and it was near enough mint. Bargains are out there without having to look like a Polish builder :p

At this budget you forget about make and model and buy the most sound car with as much MOT and tax as possible. This Rover fanaticism is getting you nowhere :(

My dad got one of these when he was living in the USA and he came over here for 6 months. It was a 80k mile 2 litre one with no rust and 6 months test, think it cost him £400 ish, 7 years ago!!
