Tenet (2020) - Christoper Nolan

Just came out, mostly made logical sense within the rules of the movie however some of the
back/forth action scenes
were really tricky to follow.

The bass was unforgiving though...utterly relentless soundtrack, need to obtain it :)

Feel like Pattinson stole the show a bit.

Oh...no Dune trailer :(

I pride myself in following complicated movies, but I think I needed a PHD in physics to follow this.

Watching it at home with subtitles might be useful. I know Nolan likes to use on set dialogue and not use CGI much but it really could have benefited from some ADR, as so many people are talking with masks on or lots of background noise.

I'm glad i'm not the only one that struggled with the dialogue after this evening, thought they had the levels all wrong as IMAX is usually much more bassy, made it hard to follow at points, but think I've got the gist of the main bits, will be going back next week to watch it again and try to unscramble some of the cloudier moments. Went by much quicker than the 2hours plus run time.

When I saw it I had Swedish subtitles so if I struggled I could read too. So it never crossed my mind until you mentioned it.

Spoiler tags broken for me just now.

I loved the soundtrack. Bass and all.

Great :-/

One of the worst things about Interstellar was the voice track for me, especially with Matthew 'Mumble' McConaughey, I struggled to catch a lot of his dialogue

It's not bad all the way through, there is just one distinct scene where it's a bit of a struggle to make out Brannagh's lines. However, having slept on it, I think it was kept deliberately vague due to the context of the scene.

I'd say it was pretty bad all the way through IMO

Even when people don't wear masks there is either lots of background noise (The discussion on the ship, shown in the trailer) or the music is too loud.

And I didn't really have an issue with Dark Knight Rises or Interstellars dialogue.

I'm going to watch again at the weekend so i'll focus more on the dialogue, it may well have been worse than I thought and I was so caught up doing the science stuff in my head keeping up that I didn't notice :p

EDIT: Was just reading a review and had forgotten Aaron Taylor Johnson was in this, even more surprised at who it is, was scratching my head as I recognised the face but the english squaddy accent totally put me off.

To the surprise of absolutely no one its another Nolan film with scuffed sound mixing.

Waiting for the Nolan fan boys to some how defend this with comments like 'he wanted you to not hear important dialogue over the obnoxious music'

Given it keeps on happening, at this point it all seems like Nolan productions are just full of yes people.ANY sound mixer in Hollywood would have pointed this all out to him and been able to fix it.

I thought that part was deliberately vague as when it switched the other way, you could understand him fine.

Overall I really enjoyed it! It's definitely one I want to see again as I think on a second run through I'd pick up loads of things I missed at the start. I didn't really notice the audio and had no problem with the dialogue, apart from the conversation on the ship near the start when I thought the levels were off a bit.

While I didn't have any issues with the dialogue apart from the one scene I mentioned, i'm not going to blindly fanboi defend this. It does have issues, as I mentioned in the 'what film did you watch last night' thread. However after watching Nolans movies for close to 20 years, I kind of know what to expect to be wrong by now before going in :)

Overall, the good outweighs the bad by a big margin, sound is just something he never quite gets right.

Saw this last night, I struggle with dialogue to the point where most of the time I cannot hear lyrics in songs at all, it's just another track of noise. The only scenes I struggled were the mask scenes and that's with the music track so loud if they had a scene with a mouse farting it would have rumbled the seats. Good film, thought Robert was a bit out of place to begin with but towards the end I preferred him than Leo in Inception.

Sequel? Hinted it was only half the story or are they going to leave it as that?

I was going to book to see this at the weekend.....until I got to the checkout page and saw it was £35 for the two of us!!

It used to be about a tenner each the last time I went (a while ago now). Is this the norm now?

Prices haven't changed at my local and the Vue cinema I frequent is cheaper than usual!

That seems expensive. It was about £24 for two of us in the Imax last night.

I thought he was a strange choice but he absolutely nailed it!

I might just wait and watch this at home if dialogue is an issue. At least then I can adjust my audio system to suit so I'm not spending half the film trying to work out what was said :p

£12.35 at our local Vue
... looks like you could sign up for one with subtitles - I don't know if these are really intrusive (like tv can sometimes be) or always just at screen bottom
