Tennis

Well I'm really excited for Wimbledon!!
Wimbledon is usually the only GS we watch and the grass tournaments like Queens and Eastbourne. Grass court has always been more entertaining, clay can be ok but the hard court stuff just isn't the same.

Anyway a bit of a damp start on the first day. Shock result Guaff going out, also surprised to see Auger-Aliassime and Isner go so early.

Shame Swan and Dart are out but Burrage made it through, got a few more Brits in action today...not looking that good for Evans at 2 sets down.

Same as you in terms of viewing really.

Like rugby union I grew up watching it so it's something I really look forward to.

Admittedly I'm less interested in the women's game and particularly now Emma is recovering from being so injured.

I'll be watching the Murray match with a cushion to hide behind and no doubt I'll get really stressed out! Lol!

I just don't want Novak to win. Anyone but him!

Yeah definitely regarding Djoker, nice to have someone different win.

Was there yesterday on Centre.

Cachin started really well against Novak and was unlucky to lose the first set, but after the rain delay Novak clearly got his act together and was unplayable.

The Venus game was a tough watch.

I saw Sinner on 18 against Fuchsovic a couple of years back and he looked very average (I think he won in 5). Obviously his rise through the rankings is impressive, but you don't realise how much he's come on until seeing him in person. His serve is massive and his backhand can be unplayable. I still have huge question marks over his mentality in the tougher matches though.

I know she is but I hadn't realised quite how bad she was.

Hopefully once she is better and does some strength training and basically followed what Andy Murray did, she will be back to winning form again.

I'm not giving up hope just yet with her!
shes definitely better than any other girl weve had in the last 30 years or so (as long as my mmory is lol)

Not really a shock at all given that Kenin is former GS champion who's already beaten Gauff previously. The media likes to build up Gauff, because she's young, and burst onto the scene as a young teen beating (an old and injured) Venus, but she's nothing special IMO. Great court speed, and defence, but her forehand is inconsistent, she's prone to getting blasted off the court by powerful players (Anisimova for example), or being outplayed by smarter players.

Still time to improve and sort out her weaknesses but not quite the prodigy some expected.

Yeah there is hype by the media, I expected her to get further than the first round, she was the 7 number seed and ranked 6 compared to Kenin at 128. I don't know much about Kenin but she has never been further than the second round at Wimbledon and hasn't done anything of note and fell off a cliff since the GS win. Gauf definitely needs to work on the forehand though.

Caught the last two sets of Thiem v Tsitsipas, both played a very entertaining match. Great all court play, tight win for Tsitsipas

Saw most of this one over the two days they played. Very even players, even during their match in Madrid. Obviously neither of them are grass court players and Thiem is far from his best, which doesn't say much for Tsitsipas. Should be a good game vs Murray, but Tsitsipas really needs a decent backhand. Hopefully Murray can attack that.
