Terraria - Dig, fight, explore, build

at night at low level i suggest mining for ores. like others say, there are hidden chests all over the world, with all rare items inside, heart crystals too which increase max health.

If I go underground will the zombies not find me/spawn on me then?

Think I'm going to have to spend hours reading the wiki, didn't even occur to me to plant the acorns that have been dropping :o

They can from holes in the tiles, usually dirt, that open up into the sky again. Means they can spawn inside it so you need to plug the holes if you find them. If you go fairly deep you always get oozes and sometimes skeletons. Black oozes are quite hard to kill when you've got early equipment so make sure you stock up well!

Alright, done. Now for a couple of hours of banging my head against the keyboard to get Wine to work and we're set :D

Oh my god. That wasn't even an understatement. In fact this is actually the fourth time i tried to run it, crashed the other three. But still, it works :D

I will say one thing for Minecraft - it's a hell of a lot easier to install in Linux :p

EDIT: Nope, just crashed again. Bah, i'll try again in the morning.

Now got an extensive mine network underneath my house, found some gold, silver, topaz and a **** ton of dirt :p finding a few pots here and there but they just seem to contain coins. To make better weapons/tools do you need to find new recipes or just the material to make them and the recipes will appear?

Nothing wrong with a multi-story tower, mine starts about 200 feet above ground, then has (I think) 8 levels, with different building materials depending on if it's meant for storage, or npc's.

Good good, there is very little in the way of flat terrain on this map so I'm stuck with levelling it off.

Anything!

Explore some more underground stuff. You'll find chests and hearts that increase your max HP. There's islands in the sky with some cool stuff. There's also a jungle area and a castle but they will probably be too difficult for you right now. If you keep digging you'll eventually hit hell :)

Yeah I've had a look at the wiki a little. Doesn't sound like I have a prayer at surviving anywhere at the moment :(

I went down and mined throughout the night it seems (then got back up just before sunrise, quickly went into my house that was surrounded my zombies and eyes, tried to go out to get the fallen star next to me and got killed ><). The odd zombie came after me but they weren't a problem. The oozes were a bit awkward when you find multiple ones and the damn worms are really annoying. I think I was nearly at something special down there, I was right next to a cave with some bats in it and a glow from below but I figured I should turn back.

But yeah first I need to sort out the landscape near my house >< Make another flat bit for a multi-story NPC house then try and level off bits for trees.

The recipes seem to just appear if you have enough. I think you can use the Guide to put items in his 'crafting' thing and he shows you what you can make from it, though I might be wrong.

Is there anything wrong with making the NPCs houses a multi-story? :p Assuming I take care to separate them properly with 2 layers that is.

Multi-storey is the best way to do it :p

Here's my old NPC hotel (before they all moved in):

Grrrrr. I was checking recipe's with the guide, put my 12 fallen stars in and saw I could create the increase max mana thing, pressed esc to get out of it and the stars fell to the ground and vanished because it was daytime :(:(

Lol I didn't know they disappeared if you dropped them during the day.
Don't worry though, you'll find plenty more, and IMO mana is pretty useless now unless you're a mage. It used to be important for rocket boots, but now you don't need mana for those.
