Terrible Jaguar re-brand

People fully understand the context of the MDs comments, what he should have done is ignored them..

No soapbox from me, I'm just looking at what is being reported and in context of the other things he's said:

All I'm pointing out is he's playing directly in to the media's hands, He's using THE vile and hateful comments from a minority of idiots to which we all find distasteful, calling them out whilst also painting this picture of large scale intolerance from people claiming its Woke.. it's all a familiar left and right tactic to tar everyone with the same brush whether by design or not, why labour on a minority of idiots?

It was a video, not an article, the context was clear about inclusion and DEI and 15 DEI Groups, and if it turns out that some of those groups are not even remotely associated with DEI but just well meaning support groups, then it really isn't showing him in a good light..

That video is just DEI cringe I'm afraid..

It couldn't be any clearer what the aim was. That guy, with that chest, on that stage... There is no denying it really. HR steer the company now lol

The marketing screams DEI.

I don't believe you have to be a rampant bigot to find this type of marketing horrifically cringey. The feeling of having this trend, agenda, ideology etc rammed down your throat induces a hard roll eyes from me.

It's highly likely to be a mistake.

Yep and so far it has always failed. It's already taking over the games industry and studios have been pumping out DEI filled flop after flop. On top of it just not being very good, due to the "inclusive" box ticking when recruiting developers. Then OFC they blame the audience when it makes a huge loss (the standard response).

We've seen it in the movie industry too. E.g. Starwars Acolyte. Massive fail, blame audience for not watching it.

**** me sideways and call me Susan, I’ve just agreed with Nasher :p
It’s not just blame though is it, it’s the calling of vile and hatred when someone doesn’t like/buy the junk that you’re pushing.
We’ve got just such a person in this thread who just can’t deal with any other opinions than his own.

I don't see how it is "rammed down your throat". If it is as unpopular as everyone makes it out to be, marketers would stop. Literally no one is forcing you to watch the advert or buy a Jaguar.

It's been happening for decades anyway. Look at all the old United Colours of Benneton adverts (who funnily enough weren't a car manufacturer but the family did have an F1 team!).

I think it was a stupid ad and rebrand too, but I certainly don't feel victimised by the different coloured people in different coloured clothes.

It gets worse - pretty sure he wrote it off (or it snapped it half) and he now drives a Qashqai

Still have the Navara, just been a lot of changes lately and less call to use it. I don't just drive it for the fun of it (though I much prefer driving something with pickup/van driving height and a decent V6 engine over a regular car).

I don't care about Woke or not.

Jag wants to move even further up-market towards the likes of Bentley let alone BMW from a reliability standpoint.

Also they want to target the younger demographic that also have money?!

Are these people in the room with us right now Jag?

Also, sorry the advert is ***** and means nothing.

I'll save my judgement for that slab of a car teaser before I judge but at this stage, show no mercy.

The advertising is overtly DEI. Benneton marketing was very different and didn't push an agenda.

Whilst the advert wouldn't stop me buying another Jaguar, I think this form of advertising is a mistake. It's almost at the stage of being cliche.

I don't feel threatened by DEI marketing, or DEI in general. It doesn't make me feel victimised or marginalised by seeing half a dozen different genders on the telly trying to sell me a car.

I find the whole DEI, alphabet people, thing entirely tedious.

How is the Benneton marketing any different to that JAG advert really?

They are mostly a load of models from different ethnicities prancing around wearing vibrant/bold colours.

That's fair, I see your point.

Perhaps it's more to do with the times we are in. Back in the 90s, Benneton was cool for having those bold colours and mixed race adverts.

Now though, it's more of a weapon, more of a dare you to criticise. An alphabet advert, made by an alphabet person, that appears to have completely missed it's mark, but god help you if you criticise it as your a big fat smelly bigot if you do.

It's not the advert per se, although it's awful, it's the agenda. It's a huge turn off - perhaps to the majority of people. Cool if Jaguar only wants to sell cars to rich alphabet people. Not so cool if Jaguar wants to sell to pretty much anyone else.

As also mentioned early, run that marketing in certain places in the world and watch Jaguar get banned altogether :)
