Terrible Jaguar re-brand

Benneton ad people were wearing products you could buy, the Jag ad didn’t have a car in it.

Does that actually make the difference? Can you honestly say you think these are better adverts for having a car in them?

Or are all they just about brand recognition and getting “Jaguar” in the public consciousness? In which case the new advert has been a success.

Yes, because they sell cars.

We’ll see how successful when they have a car for sale.
I mean, the advert has people talking, but clearly not in the way they wanted.

The idea that all publicity is good publicity needs to dei die.

It’s not true. It’s some statement that dumbass marketeers parrot to pretend they actually achieve anything, so they can continue to inflate their budgets.

They get millions of impressions yet the conversion rate is well below 1%.

I don't see how it is "rammed down your throat". If it is as unpopular as everyone makes it out to be, marketers would stop. Literally no one is forcing you to watch the advert or buy a Jaguar.

It's been happening for decades anyway. Look at all the old United Colours of Benneton adverts (who funnily enough weren't a car manufacturer but the family did have an F1 team!).

I think it was a stupid ad and rebrand too, but I certainly don't feel victimised by the different coloured people in different coloured clothes.

It's unpopular but they push it anyway. There are bunch of "consultant" companies convincing companies to do it. Hoping if they saturate enough of the world people will just accept it, but it's not working.

Jag aren't even making any more cars for a year. I think they might be gone by then.

So what you’re saying is, if they changed the ending, this would be a good Peugeot advert? As that’s the product they actually show in the advert
what a strange comparison........

in the advert above, the car isnt the product being sold............... it is the support that the AA give you if you are a member which is clearly in the advert.

Now if you are the sort of person who thinks an advert should be literal and show exactly what a product can do or offer then you may argue it is still not a good advert (though i guess at that point you would have been raging at the citroen transformer car add when you got in the car expecting to be able to turn into a robot and dance!!!)

but imo it is pretty obvious in the above advert what the AA are offering.

PS i notice you have not updated your sig yet to show the new jaguar logo and font. ;)

The smith n sniff podcast got it bang on today. Richard porter (sniff petrol, top gear and the grand tour writer), basically said jag haven’t essentially been good since the 60’s and have been teetering on the brink time and time again, and they are probably not far off it again, so it’s either keep doing doing what they have been doing for decades…and go bust or try something different and maybe switch their image away from the boring old man to what ever that was in the advert……and go bust anyway:p

The heritage will remain, no amount of rebranding will get rid of the Etype et al. It’s sad that all the ‘enthusiasts’ that are shocked and flocking to the forums, didn’t actually buy one.

Lol, whut?
Anyway, back to some sort of sense.
If someone has to do an advert without the product plastered all over it and has people talking positively about it (unlike Jag), do this..

Your both making my point for me.

I wasn’t making a comparison. I was pointing out the flaw in ‘an advert is better when they show the product’. Showing a product doesn’t inherently make an advert better - as your example it’s a great advert as it’s memorable and they don’t show the product at all.

TBH Britain has made some of the best stuff when either on the verge of bankruptcy or destruction.

But that was when we had some great engineers still around.

You - Jag advert bad!
Jono - Why? when the Benetton advert from decades ago was very similar.
You - Yes, but the Benetton advert had the product in the advert.
Me - But including the product (or not) doesn't make a good (or bad) advert.
You - give examples of where the product is not represented in an advert
Me - yes, that's my point which is contrary to your earlier one.

I'm not sure how that discussion caused confusion but I hope my short summary makes it easier to understand for you.

Iv been telling everyone the electric car era is going to destroy all testosterone. Did they employ a fashion expert who loves EVs for their marketing ?

Blimey JLR are in for a penny, in for a pound with DEI :

From the awards:
Throughout his career, Adrian has been a transparent, motivational and compassionate leader.

As CEO, he has made it his personal passion to champion and drive DE&I initiatives at JLR, believing that creative strength comes from our differences. He has shown unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community’s rights and representation.
..
He advocates strongly for the LGBTQ+ community at internal events and in company-wide messages, regularly reminding his teams that JLR is an inclusive place and highlighting the importance of creating safe spaces for the community.

I'm very much against real intolerance, so do we assume it's all genuine and JLR is a cess pit of a place to a point safe spaces need creating and staff need regular reminding that they need to be inclusive (presuming there is an intolerance problem)?
