Test Drive Unlimited 3 is officially being made :)

There is a big mod for (though sadly it would still be at the mercy of the DRM I think if that was no longer supported) that adds a ton of features (unfortunately it is of rather dubious origin though).

You can also still play it offline - though you might need to disconnect your network adaptor initially to get the game to go offline properly. I'm not sure if you can still create new accounts for it though if you don't already own it or not.

Annoys me a lot actually - I won't buy a game again from a developer/publisher that lets a game sunset in this state it is a disgraceful way to treat your customers (albeit the main studio I don't think is still around the same and likewise the publisher but still).

A flatmate of mine at Uni got me into the original TDU and we spent hours in our halls of residence trying to get multiplayer sorted but the Uni filtering just got in the way. I loved the original TDU despite the obvious bugs and flaws such as the invisible police cars and the bumps in the road that would damage your car when you were doing the new car delivery missions and you lost a bit of value and the no damage bonus.

I used to play the game for a couple of days each summer as a little break. I don't think I did this last summer or the summer before so I might have to try again soonish. I remember in 2016 or 2017 I found a few unofficial community mods that upped the resolution of the cars, added some more variety to the NPC cars around the island and higher environment/scenery textures but one of the updates borked the install and I never bothered to work out which one it was.

TDU2 I didn't like as much because of the 4 social aspects to the game. It diluted the original game's strengths too much I thought.

Hopeful that TDU3 will be as good or better than TDU2 and maybe near TDU. If its got modern cars, graphics etc and a much larger game world then it has some potential but I fear it will be a poor 3rd entry in the series.

Should be interesting!

I was a colossal fan of the first TDU on the 360. The demo had me drooling and driving a GT500 down the roads of Hawaii was breathtaking alone. The full game as gorgeous as it was failed due to its daft networking topology - you just couldn't play with your mates! The moment you enter and exit a store, you're in a different map with different players. It was nuts and I could never play with any of my mates because of it! I ended up exclusively just driving around the island searching for folks to meet with but more often than not, they would randomly vanish. As a social game it was absolutely dire.

As a result I never touched TDU2 at all.

Let's hope it's not like the Crew, I'd want something between GTA V and The Crew (Balance between size and fullness) - The Crew 2 was just so empty and boring, TDU for some reason whilst empty is much more interesting compared to The Crew but similar games.

One of the best decisions you've ever made! :D

I really hope this new iteration doesn't stray too fat from the first - the joy of delivering a car in perfect condition and getting that bonus was great! (although I always felt it was a bit too easy with there not being a time limit!)

Disagree
I loved TDU 2
I liked chatting over voice comms and meeting up for a race, you can get out the car and have a look at your opponents cars to see what they are driving, before getting back in to the car to race, also the casino was cool

I want to see improvements which I guess will not happen owing to budget constraints..

TRUE MMO with 100+ players per instance.
Humans allowed to take roles of police, issue fines for speeding/violations etc (If can catch the perp of course)
Working traffic light system.
Petrol stations and real life fuel usage dependent on car and how driven etc.

I expect however we will get TDU2 "lite" with added DLC and monetisation.
sounds a lot like altis life mod for arma3

I just never got into it to be honest - for me Test Drive has always been about cruising around in fantastic looking (and controlling) cars - there was too much in terms of "story" in TDU2 and the control and feel of the cars fell off a cliff imo!

I remember all the OTT marketing for the first game. Things like being able to purchase property and inviting your friends over so they can browse your house and your garage full of cars. Lol yeah that worked out alright.

yea the game wasnt much fun imo, I think I played it for about a week maybe a little longer and that was with a group of friends or I probably wouldnt have lasted a few days..

what I'd really love is another need for speed mmo, the old one was so damn fun

I actually just love TDU2 for driving around aimlessly - though the graphics could have been better in some respects the little game world details really made it. The vehicle physics was a bit goofy but I could get past that. It failed pretty hard at its two main goals though both the racing and social sides of it needed serious work.

If it's not made by Titus it isn't Test Drive imo ;)

Quality game on the Amiga but the recent ones never grabbed me. Forza horzon was better imo.

But glad some are interested in it. At least I won't be dissapointed and if it is good then great.

Test Drive was Accolade on the Amiga. Like a lot of Amiga games back then, best remembered for the cool intro.

Titus were never that great. At the time Crazy Cars looked amazing on paper, it was a dud with a worse sequel. The original Unlimited was pretty good, it was doing things at the time that not a lot were, why the love for a third game I guess.
