I'm probably in a minority, but I preferred TDU1 over TDU2. I really didn't care too much for all of the casino/social stuff in TDU2 and although TDU1 was never at the forefront of vehicle physics/handling (I actually enjoyed the Hardcore mode aside from the jumping aspect) there were some debatable characteristics for at least a few of the cars in TDU2. For example, I know that on release (perhaps even now) the MK6 Golf GTI used to infuriate a lot of people in TDU2 because it had ridiculous amounts of lift-off oversteer as in it was borderline broken, I learned to work around that issue in the Golf, but in general the vehicle handling just felt like it wasn't designed to be fun.
In TDU1 I changed my character's clothes once, I think I bought the most expensive black suit and never bothered with clothes again after that, poor bloke probably absolutely reeks by now. I bought houses purely because I needed more garage slots for the cars I wanted rather than because they had a better layout or a better view out of the window. I just wanted to be able to blitz around a big island with some fun physics, back in the day it was all about drifting for me and I don't think that was anywhere near as fun in TDU2. My most driven (drifted) car in TDU1 was the RUF Rturbo from the Megapack, but I know from the TDU forums I was on that there were people out there with 5x the mileage on their favourite cars. I did enjoy somehow ending up getting the game nearly a week before release because I'm pretty sure I took a punt on an eBay seller who actually turned out to be legit despite the sketchy looking listing, I remember being worried that the game key would get blocked after being activated early (I was only mid-teens at the time), but after starting to drive around and seeing other people in game I soon forgot about that and got on with enjoying the game. While playing the game I somehow managed to fry one of the 7600GTs that I was running in SLI at the time which wasn't quite an enjoyable time when you weren't earning real money to get yourself back up and running. In general, just lots of memories from the first game that weren't replicated or improved upon. Nostalgia.jpeg
As long as more effort is put in to the driving and stuff like casinos and social parties isn't pushed on you at every possible chance it could be something to look forward to.
