Test Drive Unlimited Released Tomoz

direct download works at about £26.

A reboot seemed to fix my graphics and stuttering problems, but im still getting dodgy sound (ac97).

Also my game crashes when ever i do the first race. I can still use the menu, go to options/profiles/quit game fine. But the main screen gets stuck after pressing begin race

What are your problems? Someone on here might have an answer :)

2 Out of 3 times i launch the game, i get artifacting&flashing objects and half the usual fps(stuttering anyhow), have to restart the game till it launches it in the normall way with smooth fps and no artifacting.

Online account disconnects way too often, perhaps this is cos of my router?

Oh and bass is odd, when outside its way too loud while when in a tunnel i hear no bass or echo at all, should be the opposite...

Before that i had massive massive problems because it didn't like 97.31 tweaked drivers.
I couldn't shut down the game in any way, alt tab or in game proper exit meant instant reboot.
Change reso or refresh also meant artifacting and then after 5 seconds of game stuck in some kind of infinite loop of minimizing and maximizing and flashign screen, only way out was a manual reboot as nothing was responding...

I got that in the demo - just changed the resolution back and forth in the menu before entering the game :) - this seemed to stop in happening (had to do it every time, mind...)

Sounds like a mess. :-s

I also have reservations about getting this came because someone compared it to TOCA3 which was very arcade (read crap car physics) like which I cannot stand in a racing game.

Which does sound good so long as the cars feel right, I couldn't stand the numb floaty car models in TOCA... just hope TDU isn't the same because the theory sound great. :(

You won't like TDU then - the physics (despite what various reviews said when it was released on the 360) are fairly awful. Gravity is the greatest of the problems, cars jumping far too easily. Bumps in the roads caused by changes in incline create too many problems too.

Just a personal opinion but having got stuck into GTR2, this just feels nasty.

My game is still screwed.

Can't play in either single or online mode. The first race is bugged, in single player mode it just freezes and nothing happens. In online mode i can't see any servers, and when i try and create a game, TDU crashes. Online mode says its connected to the tdu servers, but its identical to singleplayer. Something also strange....i don't see any cars apart from the basic AI cars which you can't race. I can't use map, and nothing is available like garages/houses. So atm im stuck driving around the island in an audi TT being shout at by the GPS telling me im going the wrong way. :o :o

I have problems with this game as well. But then, what did I expect from Atari. It was the same with NWN2. had to wait until version 1.3 before it was decently playable.

Like I was saying on the Windows Boards about Vista. Why should we have to put up with unfinished products after paying fairly substantial amounts of money? No other industry is like this. Can you imagine if your DVD wasn't finished and you had to go back to shop to get and update for it. Or your stereo didn't function properly.

Seems to me like all software developers are releasing programs that are obviously still in Beta, knowing they can spew out and update after the first wave of purchases have been made.

Its ****.

Oh dear. :(

GTR2 is pretty good, I've actually driven quite a few circuits and exotics including a real life 911 GT2 and the 'game' is pretty good at recreating most aspects; the sound is brilliant and the cockpits very atmospheric.

Unfortunately the realism is toned down (bite and grip threshold of slicks) because your lacking that vital driving sensation gforce! Without it you simply couldn't drive a fast car, fast, as you'd not have any communication from the chassis, steering, seat, your organs etc. It would be like having a conversation through lip reading only, no spoken words, visiually it's all there but that final piece of the jigsaw that makes the whole picture so clear is ommitted. :D

The game has in effect, pseudo car physics in that it isn't at all realistic yet it feels like you are in fact in a car, so to speak. I don't play racing sims myself but if you enjoy NFS (e.g. Underground and Most Wanted) level of realism you'll enjoy this as its similiar in style but tad more difficult.

Finally for those still wondering, no, its not like Outrun 2006. :p

Guys,

The problems with the downloaded version can probably be attributed to the fact its not supposed to be out here yet, at a guess anyways lol.

i was tempted to download, but when the price is in dollars and its not released until the 16th i thought i will leave it for now. and just order online to get the retail product.

Loved it on the xbox360, should look better on the pc.

Digital Download has now been halted until the issue is completely resolved. We will have news for all customers who purchased a copy via the DD service soon.

Download has been removed, so they must have released that there was a problem with it.

could well have saved my self 26 squid then lol,

well lol :) and :( cause i want the game lol :p

I cant link you to it but the game is available on ebay, I purchased a copy on monday and it came today, sealed, connects to the servers and no problems with stuttering, I had one sound issue but a restarting the game sorted that

Just thought i'd stick my opinion in here since i played the beta for a ridiculous amount of hours, not gonna download it though, i'll just sit tight and wait for the retail release.

I'm a big racing simulation fan, with LFS being one of my favourite games, but i really can't get enough of TDU. It's true that the physics aren't "simulation" but i definitely think they got it right.

I used my Logitech Formula Force with the beta no problems and with the default control setups it took some getting used to, but after about 30 minutes of driving around i got used to it and then couldnt put the game down!

I didn't do many races. I just met up with mates who were also playing the beta and cruised around together for hours on end without realising!

There's definitely no game like it available to us mere PC gamers so it gets 2 thumbs up from me.

:D
