TF2 Heavy Update

Remember kids!

Steam News said:
To give all gamers a chance to check out the new gameplay introduced in "The Heavy" update, Valve will be running a Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend via Steam, a leading online platform for the delivery and management of PC games. The Free Weekend is open to gamers the world over and scheduled to begin Friday, August 22 at 11 am PDT.
TF2 is free for the weekend beginning Friday 22nd for you to try out if you still haven't got round to buying the game!

UPDATE:
Heavy Melee Unlock, The Killing Gloves of Boxing.
Every time the Heavy kills an enemy with the K.G.B he gets 5 secs guaranteed critical hits.

The unlockable for the Heaviest pugilists out there is the K.G.B. Any time a Heavy kills an enemy with the K.G.B he receives five seconds of guaranteed critical hits. This crit-boost can be used to punch and kill further enemies, extending the boost time. Alternatively, the Heavy can switch to another weapon and use the boost to take out an enemy at range. The Heavy's slow movement speed, and the K.G.B's slower swing speed, make it a risky prospect.

I have to say, not a very original idea. We could all see something like this being made as one of the unlocks.

Not that I could do better myself though :p

Still recon an alternative fire on the minigun would be nice.... A 2-3 second 3 speed shooting frenzy... Before the gun then over heats (so no minigun) for say 5 or more seconds...

Cool looks like I am going to be playin tf2 that weekend. Better tell family and friends I am busy ;-)

Will have to let a few of my close friends know about the free weekend, one nearly brought tf2 yesterday but decided he better not. Wonder if a free weekends worth of play will cause him to hand over the cash.

UPDATE:
From http://www.teamfortress.com/

So it's 5 new 'arenas' for the new gameplay type. Was hoping for some more attack-defend or more CP maps :(

'a new Payload map focusing on more open spaces than Goldrush' - should be interesting and hopefully better for Scouts.

I just think it's not suited to certain classes that well. The scout would have a nightmare in the tight corridor and there's not many spots for snipers. The way the final point is laid out isn't that great I think.

I personally would have liked to see pl_dbheights released, a payload version of Dustbowl. With a little input and help from Valve that map could be fantastic.

Yeah, weve played it in a few clan matches too. Once against some pr0 clan from lithuania or something. They got a bit upset when they lost to us but that was mostly because some of them had never played the map lol.

I know what you mean by some classes but then again scouts and snipers have the same problems on dustbowl :/ I mean theres a few sniper spots but not many decent ones.

PL_DBHEIGHTS is alright too but since Im not a huge fan of Dustbowl, the constant spam in those bottlenecks gets old :( This is why Im looking forward to the new PL map theyve announced where they focus on more open space!

Alright guys, hearing good things about team fortress. I play CS:S when I get a chance to game, and sometimes have a single player on the go as well (currently half life 2 I'm re-doing). What can I expect from Team Fortress and should I go straight into TF2? What about being able to run it? I have an e2140 clocked to about 3.2ghz, 2gb ram on XP SP2, and a ATI HD 3850 256mb
Cheers

If youve ever played Quake 3 or something like that then TF2 will be a bit easier to pick up if you play Soldier or Demo :) otherwise its all a bit of a learning experience hehe

Sometimes you die quicker in TF2 than you do in CS or CSS which annoys me since it never seemed that way in TFC but at least you get to respawn fairly soon

Yeh, that's my only peave with TF2, is:-
a) You die at random far too easily... Critical hit rockets being the prime example.
b) Suicidal play is not really penalized. Even if the scores just showed points/deaths per game/round it would help...

In TFC you could managed to play (even offensively) and die very little, if you played well and in the right way... Much harder in TF2...

Yeah :/

Classes seem to be made of paper in TF2 :( without the armour they used to have and with the random crit damage it all goes a bit wrong!

Now if only all the servers would turn crits off :(

Was waiting for the TFC crew to come into this thread.

*sigh* See the whiner crew is already here...

No one is suggesting your precious TF2 isn't a fantastic game... Just pointing out some differences/preferences in gameplay...

Please don't turn this into some X vs Y thread, as not one else is...

What TFC crew is that? I played TFC for a few years back in 1999/2000/2001 etc but Ive been playing TF2 since release.

I like TF2 but I dont care how much of a fanboy you are, you cant deny it has flaws. You might call them features >.> but no armour and crit damage is a flaw imo :(

Id like to see normalised damage too :/ the difference in damage between 1 rocket or grenade hit and the other is huge. Same for shotguns etc, if you look at the spread of the hits from shotguns, that is also very random. This has the effect of very random damage :(

Critical hits are fun...

But it's a shame they're not more tactical. ie: When you've earned critical hits (ie: your next shot(s) are going to be critical) it's a shame you don't know this. So you can save that shot or know it's a critical one.

Or, a count down on your screen so you know when your critical hits are going to go active. So you can try and be in the right place at the right time...

Plain random = not very skillful... And TF2 has many random aspects to it....

I guess Valve seem to really like their crits :/ every new weapon update for the classes so far has had 1 weapon which involves crits :|

Kritzkrieg for Medics
