TF2 MvM update (now with co-op mode)

So.... let me get this straight....

My options for playing MvM are either to wait X minutes in a queue of Y thousand people and hope it connect..... or pay £1.29 per game?

Am I missing something?

Managed to get my own dedi running.

Rungs surprisingly well, even with what I thought was a bottleneck of 1Mbit/Sec Upload. People in UK area getting 30-40 ping and US joiners 100-120.

Fair old amount of CPU usage, between 30-60% on all 4 cores of an i7 2600k @ 4.5Ghz.

Beats waiting around for community servers though! :D

For anyone wanting to setup a dedi.

Get and Install HL Dedicated Server Tool
Download http://storefront.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.exe
Execute and install to chosen directory via GUI

Get TF2 Dedicated Server Files
Open elevated command prompt
Browse to the directory you installed the HLDS Update tool to. F.ex: cd D:\installdir
Run the following command: HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game "tf" -dir .
Utility will now download ~5.35GB of data

Configure server
Use explorer and browse to installdir\orangebox\tf\cfg
Create a new file called server.cfg with the following contents:

Code:
hostname "Your Server Name"
rcon_password "rconpass"
sv_contact "[email protected]"
sv_password "playerjoinpassword"
tf_mvm_min_players_to_start 2

Port Forwarding
Ensure you forward the following ports to your host machine

UDP 27000 to 27030, 4380
TCP 27014 to 27050

Launch server
Use explorer and browse to installdir\orangebox\

Create a new file called StartServer.bat with the following contents:

Code:
srcds.exe -console -game tf +map ctf_2fort +maxplayers 32

Execute the StartServer.bat file and the dedicated server will launch in a console window

Join Server
Join your own server via server browser or console (connect IP:PORT) If you specified a password for your server in the server.cfg make sure to execute password "playerjoinpassword" prior to the connect command
Login to RCON via the console with rcon_password "rconpassword"
Change to a MvM map via the console with rcon changelevel "mapname", for example rcon changelevel mvm_coaltown

Get people to join and play!

Notes:
MvM will only work with a server configured with a maxplayers of 32

There is a bug where some people get stuck on Failure/Retry/Victory screens, to get out of it open the console and execute hud_reloadscheme

You can change difficulty as follows via the following RCON console commands:

rcon sv_cheats 1
rcon tf_mvm_skill X

Where x is a minimum of 1.000000 and a max of 5.000000

found this on other forums, it does work,

Just search for servers with MVM filter

List in order of peeps on server eg 1/26 or 2/26 join and kick some bot butt.

I think it's a bit meh but great that they can be arsed to still update

Might be worth trying these if you hsot your own server also:

Console command: tf_mvm_popfile profilename

Where profilename is one of the following:
"mvm_decoy_advanced"
"mvm_coaltown_advanced"
"mvm_mannworks_advanced"
"mvm_decoy_advanced2"
"mvm_coaltown_advanced2"
"mvm_mannworks_ironman"

Quite enjoying this as it brings something different. I like the way people have to work together more than actually going off and doing their own thing, which makes a change from some of the regular TF2. What's pretty surprising is how good the AI is at times. It's a shame the same can't be said for the bots in CS:GO. :p

Better hope you get 5 people that can actually play, as without it, you're ******.

Just been in with a clown who continuously tried attacking with an escape plan. Joy.

Can't join through server browser, can't join Boot Camp without a massive wait, and can't get into Mann Co servers without paying!

I know its a free game and all, but surely the idea of downloading a game is to actually be able to play it?!?!

Ah well, I was hoping this would bring me back to TF2 for the first time since the hats and drops garbage drove me away, but alas no.

The Mann Co servers aren't that much better, and i've paid for a ticket.

The wait time is a complete joke.

wow that was fun, i joined via the server browser, played for an hour, well done valve with this update.

I just hope they bring more servers.

Been sat in a server with one other person for 15 minutes waiting for players, yet there are 800 in the queue.....

weird i was played dustbowl opened up the server browser and got straight onto a game. Great fun but buggy, we lost but ended up winning and were stuck in limbo for ages.

Played a whole bunch of games tonight. really enjoyed it and realised im quite good as a soldier. Might re-kindle TF2 for me!

Haven't had a chance to play it yet. Seems fun but I haven't played any horde game modes before like L4D.

Also, new record breaker for TF2 with a peak just shy of 121,000 constant players.
