That moment when you clock the van...

Read road ahead
When safe to overtake indicate out
Check blind spot
Pull out
Move past
Indicate to move back in
Do so

If you want any more advice just shout.

I wasn't after advice. I was just wondering how you overtake without speeding.

I'm curious as to how one can call overtaking a group of learner bikers at 113 mph whilst pedestrians are on the opposite pavement a perfectly safe manoeuvre.

You're supposed to be within the speed limit whilst overtaking. So it's the people that exceed the speed limit that are the muppets.

There are too many brain dead people in the world today clearly.

On a clear nsl road I don't think anyone would raise an eyebrow if you hit 80 to overtake a car that the was dilydallying, less be honest, I its safer to overtake with some conviction, but over 100 past a bunch of learners? C'mon now, that's just being a dixk.

Little point if all you're going to do is 70mph.

Lol.. Roads are for traveling on, track days are for driving on. Go as fast as you like if you're not putting others at risk. Shame people treat the roads like there own private race track.

Pointless debating, people will always dig in and defend their view. Which is fair enough, makes the world go round.

There is very little need to. It's a rarity. In the cases where it is a necessity/desirable to it's easy to get past without breaking the speed limit as whatever you are overtaking is moving so slowly anyway.

Still does not impact the original point. That being, it's not legal to break the speed limit while over-taking.

I have no desire to discuss the perceived safety, morality, desirability or otherwise of doing so however.

I had a GT3 and I have a race car, you're preaching to the converted old boy.

LOL... Sorry didn't mean to preach. Nice car, I'm seriously jealous. My mate is a Porsche nut, 964, 3X 993, 996 carrera 4, cab. Kicked it all off with a boxster. (Not all at same time)
Had a 993 which was like it had just come out of the box.

964 is very tempting at the moment, sweet spot I feel, if right they are really right. Chap who bought my GT sold it to buy a 964 and I've got mates and associates with them too, can look superb.

Huge soft spot for 993s, myself. Last and greatest of the air cooled. But well sorted 964 is a joy. Nowt like it, again I have soft spot for Targ. Build quality is just astonishing. But you know that anyway.

Are people in this thread really suggesting that they think its legal to exceed the speed limit for the purposes of an overtake?!

I think some others assume they are because they don't agree with a black and white approach.

Sometimes you find yourself in a situation where you cant legally overtake someone because they are doing fast enough already or the distance is too large to cover safely within 10% of the limit.

In these situations you can break the law or simply not overtake. 113 is excessive by most peoples standards given the national limit is 70 and that road is a what 60?

Sometimes you have to accept that you can't overtake even if your car has the potential to do so.

I think what he's trying to say is that 113mph is excessive, given that the maximum national speed limit anywhere in this country is 70mph. And that he assumes the road in question is a 60mph national speed limit.
