When somebody says "I watched 20 minutes and gave up" it just makes me think "What a child" when a couple more episodes in it can really gets going.
I given up on many series but I give them several episodes to get going (or not).
The Leftovers will be the next if something doesn't happen.
20 minutes will often be enough, I'll usually watch through a few more episodes and/or skim through a bit to see if it gets better but some stuff I literally can't get past the first 20 minutes or so, I'm not going to put myself through more of it on the off chance unless someone else says it gets better.
I'd like to see you apply your own principles to something like say Jersey Shore
Obv I would not sit down to watch a show like the crap mentioned above. 
I pick carefully my shows and took a Yank buddies advise a few years back : Do not watch a new show until its at least completes 1 season.

You've missed a lot of great TV in that case. Yes, it's annoying when stuff gets cancelled before its time but plenty of single-season TV shows I've watched have ended okay and been well worth watching.

I mentioned above show as in the post above mines by Roff with Jersey Shore being the joke.
I do not watch that type of trash.
And when did I state a I did not watch a show that had 1 season, nowhere above did I say that and I do watch them if they get good feedback once they are done.
I do not have the time to sit and watch TV 24/7.

Calm down, I mis-read is all.
Anyway, watched the second episode this evening. Improvement over the first one (perhaps they had acting lessons between filming?), still cheesy and some of the characters don't quite 'fit' the actors but it's persuaded me to give it another go.
