The 2010 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

OK, I'll keep an eye out for the slugs - thanks :-)

Would you suggest leaving outdoors, or bring it back inside?

They'll get more light outside. The downside is that they're more open to attack by wee beasties.

Oddly, for an organism that makes it's food from light, a hot/bright day can kill them if you just take a plant outside. You'll need to acclimatise the plant by giving progressively longer time in direct sunlight.

Getting like a jungle up here at the moment! The Friars hat plant is the one that's bloody HUGE now! It's grown millions recently but only just starting to bud, no flowers yet mind but have a lot on the others, as you can see I don't have much space!

Your plants look great and far more advanced than most of mine. Is that a ripe fruit I see on one of the plants, by the window frame?

As my plants grow I expect I will also struggle for space. ;)

I started off with over 60 plants and have had to give some away to make more room, I have also moved 4 plants outside the greenhouse to give the others a bit of growing room.

I does not help that my wife expects to be able to grow plants in the greenhouse that are not chillies, the bloody audacity of the woman. :o

Yep my very first chilli that's ripe, very chuffed haha simple things! I've been really pleased with how they're doing at the moment, compared with last year, but I've been a bit more organised about it this year. I've had to give away 6 plants and let another 6 die due to no space so feel your pain.
If you ever need a hand mind, I'm just in Hitchin :P

You are very welcome to some pods when they are ripe, we can tie up in this thread. I will have Bhut Jolokia, Chocolate Bhut, Trinidad Scorpion, 7 Pot/Pod, Naga Morich, Dorset Naga, Orange Hab, Mustard Hab, Chocolate Hab, Red Savina and others. I really have no idea what I am going to do with all the fruit.

Nice! I have Serreno, Right of Fire, Orange Hab, Scotch Bonnets, lemon drops, Joe long Cayennes, numex twilights, riots, F1 chillis, birds eyes and a couple of others!

It's like Noel's swap shop haha

Quick update on mine. i gave em some plant feed today. i had to make up 4.5 litres of the stuff! so i used some on the plants and threw the rest on the garden.

you do realise you can use half as much water if you use half as much plant feed right :D

if you use around 1/5 you can make it in a litre bottle!

*cuts off* :P Thanks! Ever learning
its because once seeds mature inside fruit/veg the plant thinks its done its job and doesnt put as much effort into growing more.

so the quicker you get them off the quicker the plant will try to grow more

they will get hotter the longer they are on the plant after reaching maturity though so its a compromise

Wootage! my first chilli has surfaced \o/. I was getting worried as 5 flowers fell off at the stalk due to (i think) the crappy weather we are getting up here at the moment. Really relieved to see one has grown :).

Also my mystery chilli plant is still growing away. Hopefully it'll fruit this year so I can see what it is. Otherwise i'll try and keep it inside over winter to give it a head start next year.

It does look like a Bell pepper plant but it cant be as I just had the 4 naga seeds together plus the bell peppers I planted at a similar time are now much bigger than this.

I have 5 plants. They are around 15inches tall, and are growing nicely.
However, all have recently grown flower buds and have dropped them at different stages. Some even after they have just opened.

Currently i have 1 flower bud on all of them and it have just opened. I am not sure if it will drop that too though.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going wrong?

Thanks

Will have to post a few pics soon although mine aren't near as tall as some of the plants here. Seen what I think is the first buds appearing on one of my plants.

over watering?

can anyone tell me whats wrong with a couple of my leaves? they seem to have some sort of tearing. is this sun damage? i have only ever kept these plants indoors, so insects aren't the problem.
