The 2010 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

Very nice crop there, I wish I had grown a few different varieties, I just have piles of boring cayennes :D.

Picked these today, 3rd crop of around 30 chillies.

Struggling to use them all now, I have a load in the freezer and think i'll try and make this batch into powder. I'll put them on a baking try on the lowest setting and see what happens. Will post results later .

my tobasco plants have only just started getting chillis on them :S

they seem to be growing fairly fast now though, im had quite a few cheyenne im just letting the plants die now.

bell peppers werew a total fail one plant grew 2 big ones but they are still green , another plant managed 1 pepper and its still green and causing the plant to bend to one side from the uneven weight lol.

not bad for a first try i guess

You can eat them green though cant you? One of mine has 2 quite big bell peppers on that are still green. Tempted to harvest them next week as there are 2 smaller ones that are refusing to get any bigger.

Thinking of making some chilli choc at the weekend,i'll get some decent dark choc and melt it and add some naga powder then put it back into a mold to set.

Made my chilli powder. Smells totally different to any shop bought chilli powder I've had before. Used about 30 chillies and its not even filled a small herb pot .

Its actually a little redder than this but I couldnt quite get the colour right with Lightroom.

Do you need to add salt or anything to preserve it?

Its suprising how many chillies you have to use to get a decent amount of powder.

To save time just pop the chillies into a food processor or if you want to do it really fast buy a coffee grinder.

My chillie's didn't do too well this year, my main lesson learnt this year is, don't buy seeds from ebay. I ended up with bell peppers instead of what was on the label of the packet! At least I ended up with a crop of peppers not a total loss, but shame it was hot and spicy!

Guy at work has given me vintage Bat Guano to see what happens with some of my plants. If I notice i will post up. So far all they have had is water so if they suddenly go crazy I will post up

woah nice amount there, would make awesome chilli powder!

is it possible for us all to save seeds and organise a seed swap ? i think ive got a few hundred jalapeno seeds but quite a lot less scotch bonnet seeds, im sure other people grew scotch bonnets tho, ive got enough eggplant seeds here for everyone as well, we could send them all to one person who sends a box round and you take 5-10 of the one you want to try?

Ok this is a completely stupid question but I'm asking without googling, how easy is it to make naga chilli oil? and can you cook with it?

I love the chilli oil you get at "Ask" etc

Yes I know probably a stupid question....

My Jumbo Sweet F1 bell pepper plant, only one that germinated out of a full pack from ebay. Still its doing really well. Atm the biggest i think is near a inch wide and 5in long. They are only babies atm

Defo know now tho to do chillis indoors as they grow so much taller its amazing compared to my chilli plants out the back in the greenhouse.
