*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Had a satisfying shoulder/traps workout today with lots of volume. Starting to show a little more definition I think and can see prominent veins running down my right arm (but not my left :s).

Also did some rope face pulls today, i quite enjoy them but often felt my body being pulled back towards the pulley rather than my shoulders failing? (Possibly due to the poor grip in my shoes).

I do facepulls sat down with my legs out infront of me with my feet up against the cable post. This way you won't get any bodyrock if you sit upright try them like this, or kneeling in a lunge position.

Don't worry about asymmetry with veins. I have a very prominent vein that runs horizontally through the middle of my right bicep but not the left. Probaly due to fat placement etc. No biggie.

Ok a little mid week update from me. Things are going nicely I think. Eating my 3200 calories quite easily. Infact, my appetite is going up and I can see in a few days saying to myself, "I swear these portions are getting smaller" :D Did arms today. Did quite a few sets of dips then supersets of Skull Crushers and Curls. I've never in my life specifically trained biceps, to me bicep training is the epitome of stereotypical bodybuilding and rampant moronic training at my local gym. Anyway, doing them in a superset seemed a lot less, well, gay and poncy.

Not sure what I'm doing tomorrow. I was going to do some cardio, but I think I'm going to hold off on the cardio for now. My body has been through the meat grinder in terms of cardio these past couple of months.

I'm tempted to have a brutal morning of Abs and Obliques work. Thick abs and Obliques are cool!

Sweet, that's all I needed to know really. I've not lifted a weight in over 4 weeks now, and it doesn't look like I will be for a while either, which is really annoying me having put in some hard work last year.

I've given up smoking after 13 years and the HIT is getting my lungs back on track, so with my new monster legs I'll be able to make the most of my new mountain bike at some point, which I also can't ride now my arm has mugged me off.

I really do sympathise having tore the tendon from my elbow to my forearm approx 2 years ago. I couldn't train upper body for 6 months and then it took me another 6 months after that to be able to handle heavy weight(s) again. I sort of got stuck in a rut by it all and didn't even train my legs-which was a big mistake. like you I am stuck doing legs again but hey-at least I'm doing legs ;)

Edit: Now where's that intrasound?

I met a friends brother yesterday who she had always banged on about being into lifting/bodybuilding.

Lad was 18 and about 6ft 1, didn't look massive but obviously worked out. Quite lean too. Claiming to have a 220KG deadlift which is bloody impresive at his age and weight of 15 stone. Said he's just about managed to master the planche press up which I'm currently trying to master the tuck planche.

Was quite nice to chat to somebody with common interests etc. I mentioned grip training and then he flexed his forearm which was impressive to say the least, really thick right towards the elbow. I mentioned FatGripz and he spoke about Captains Of Crush and that he's currently onto the level 3 and when arm wrestling he just squeezes the other persons hand insanely hard :p

Me being me wanted to know what this felt like so we took the 'hand shake' position and I told him to give me his best crush while I gave him mine. Stone cold stalemate! to which he replied 'you've got really wide hands! :p

18" calves apparently!

Been watching too much 'Predator'?

"Dylan, you son of a ****!"

Had a very quick and efficient legs session today, back squats, front squats, lunges, some extensions and seated calf work took me around 40mins. Walking was a struggle afterwards though :o.

I still seem to be fairly weak in comparison to size, only squatting ~65kg for ~10 reps and front squat ~50 for ~10 reps. Doesnt bother me too much, size over strength and all that :p. Measured my legs the other day too, 15" calves, 2/3 of the way down my thigh 22" and further up 24" how big are the rest of you (oooohhh errrr)?

Not very big at all :(

On the plus side I've had the good kind of doms in my abs most of the week, must be a combination of the prone bridges, big compounds and weighted press ups (really have to brace your core for these).

Loving 5 x 5.

Yeah it's no fun, I can already feel a difference in my shoulders & arms after 4 weeks off, all that hard work just slipping away :(

Still, I'm gonna keep my arm wrapped in cotton wool and guarded with lasers so it heals quickly. In the meantime thanks to Benny, some painful squatting is on the cards a couple of times a week and I can actually get fit too now I have some time to do cardio.

Every cloud and all that :)

What can I do to motivate myself during these horrible winter months?

I haven't been lifting for 6 weeks now and I'm feeling really down. I started in September last year and initially made good progress but in December I got the flu and I haven't been since.
I workout in a barn with no heating and it's absolutely freezing. Unfortunately I don't live near any gyms and I don't even know of any with decent free weight equipment around here. :(

GSdog get back training mate I train in my garage and It's very cold just try and warm up inside before you start.

Had a good session today and feeling strong which is new for me managed to deadlift 130kg 5 x 5 and squatted 110kg for 5x5. I'm half way through stronglifts advanced so I'm eating loads at the mo going to push it hard the next 4 weeks and eat like a mad man. I've figured out my back pain which i believe to be Lordosis so I've stared doing some extra stretching to see if It'll help.
