The 2011 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

I don't usually post on forums, but I wanted to share my luck this year. last year I wanted to start growing chillies and I thought numex twilight would be nice. Anyway out of all seeds only one germinated and I ended up with very nice plant. Because of my luck last year I thought I will try to germinate more seeds to have more plants (I was expecting about 3-4 seeds will germinate) you can imagine my surprise when I ended up with this (there are numex twilights and nagas)

kinda nervous, been 7 days, not one germination yet...

*Might* still be OK- my first grow was last year with habaneros. One germinated after 5 days or so, the next was a few days later but then a third appeared well after I said 'that's it' for getting my plants. So, assuming you have the space, leave it in a warm area and it may still germinate.

Now I better remember to try to germinate my own seeds! :)

tbh all mine took about 3 weeks to germinate, well (to show fist leaves) don't know what was happening in soil ;) so you should be ok.
btw I had them in tray wrapped in cling film and was checking moisture every other day and if needed sprinkled with water and kept them warm.

mine are all in here: http://www.zen87038.zen.co.uk/image/chillis.JPG

However, I've just moved them all upstairs to my office where is is always much warmer (due to all the computer hardware running in there lol) - will see if that makes any difference :-)

If they are in soil and just in a room that's 16-20oc? they will take longer to germinate. I wouldn't worry, they can take weeks depending on the variety. If you want fast results, you need to put them onto something warm and keep them around 30oc.

Some building whilst I wait for the rest of the stuff to turn up, will almost need some refinement and possibly strengthening. But I'll see once I have the light fittings attached.

I have set the propagators up today and sown the seeds, for this years Habs, Nagas, Bhuts, 7-pods and Trinidad Scorpions. I am using leftovers from last years seeds so germination rates may be reduced. I'll post some pics if any actually grow ;)

To the guys that sent me seeds in the post, many thanks indeed - much appreciated, will get these puppies planted over the weekend :-)

Just a cheeky update, I now have 5 of NickK's naga's that have germinated in just over a week. As said before they're being kept on a heat mat and seem to like a good spray most days.

Picked up a packet of seeds this lunchtime for a small in-office growing competition at work. They're now planted up in pots on the window sill.

I think ill get some more for planting at home this weekend!

Looky what turned up, still no sign of the chilli seeds and stuff I ordered though, Guess what i'll be doing tomorrow, God they are heavy though, don;t think my puny pulley will deal with that weight.

What's best way to wire these suckers up, can I run them to one plug, or best to attach 3 plugs and run to a adapter.

Sprung up to 9 germinated seeds now with another little loop showing. Going to have to give some away if they all survive! Kitted up a small computer fan inside the growbox to try and achieve some nice strong seedlings.
