The 2011 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

Progress, just need to get the other 6 bulbs wired up. Still no sign of seeds for the chilliseed shop :(

Hehe all these pics makes me think your growing weed not chilli plants. :p

One tip tho, dont use foil it causes heat spots. Either use white paint or mylar for a reflection. Also if you want a cheap reflector buy them 5 for a quid takeaway tubs and use the lids and tape em up to make a cheap reflector.

Just thought I'd post as this thread got me decided to grow a few chillis this year :D Decided to go for three varieties: Habanero Chocolate, good ol' Tabasco Chilli, and Cayenne Red. We'll see how this goes

I don;t think camera could handle the brightness
I tell you what those lights are amazing, it really does feel like daylight.

Yay more or less there, just need some more adhesive or double side tape for the sides, and I could do with a new pully system of some sort. It's not very balanced. But it seems to be supporting the weight atm.

im just using flat white , sprayed the whole of the inside of my box , much easier than faffing around with mylar and its only a few percent less reflective.

your lights are looking good though acid! bet you will get some amazing growth

It is mylar, not much room for a reflector. yeah how long before I get my door kicked it.

Just a thought.

Why dont you just grow them in something like a fish/reptile Aquarium which a head bulb in there?
It would be like a mini Green house:D

size and cost. Want to be able to grow them to maturity. Also one bulb wouldn't be enough you need 30w per square feet(although that doesn't really make sense dumbed down simplification)

You could always stand its side so its really tall :p

Or you could make them something out of Corflute.
We use an Item for the New grape vines at work called GroGuards and its made out of the stuff.

It would be easy to buy a sheet and make it what ever size or shape you want :)

Acid rather than a full blown pulley system what about just using a hook and chain.
Connect one end of chin to what your suspending and other to a hook or 2 at the top, then just set the chain to the length you want and place a link over hook.

You can easily screw the hook through the roof into another peice of wood if you need a better support.

This is basically how things have been suspended at variable height since the middle ages.

You can get cheap chain at most garden centres / diy shops

this would be an option if i could find some chain clutches (or what ever they are called, look a bit like a hook and the chain slots through it so you can shorten it) as well, i want it adjustable so I can keep moving the lights up as the plants grow.

Seeds turned up as well :D

Thats my point, its is adjustable, just do it manually, to raise just lift a bit more and hook in a diff link to the hook, want it shorter unhook, lower, and rehook.

Unless your adjusting it up and down every 10 minutes or you want mm perfect accuracy this is by far the simplest method. No risk of slipping or anything as youve basically got a fixed system that allows adjustment if required
