The 2011 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

Potted my Apache F1's on Jan 31st and kept them in the airing cupboard for a week. They have since just been left on the windowsill in my room although I have now started leaving them in my shower at night with the lights left on.

The white shower cubicle with a spotlight directly above will suffice as a nice bright lightbox.

Here they are:

I'm not sure what the centre one is doing. Is was the last to pop up, grew then stopped.

Dwarf apache perhaps :D

Lol. When it popped up, it seemed to have the husk of the seed attached to the leaves keeping them pinched together until it eventually dropped off and the leaves spread.
That is as far as it's got and it hasn't grown any since... very inconsiderate given my efforts :p

I have the same kit and the same thig has happened to one of mine, its grownig but really slowly.

Mine are a bit further on than yours. Im going to repot them over the weekend, I'll post pics when i've done it.

my overwintered scotch bonnet is getting really bushy now, its almost as big as it got last year already! i decided to start some more seeds. sowed about 20 of each; scotch bonnet, finger chilli, tomato and jalapeno.
i havent got room for 60plants lol :/
i want some tumbling tomatos too, cannot be doing with 1m+ normal tom plants on the window sill again!
how would scotch bonnets do outside with no greenhouse??

Put this in my other topic but thought it could go here too as its about chillies.

I was worried my flat was too cold even the airing cupboard/boiler cupboard might not warm enough or whatever so i bought a heated propagator from B&Q today, thought it would have been a tenner as saw it on hotukdeals site but it wasnt reduced so payed 13.50 or somit.

I thought it might be small but its not too bad size wize, it feels well made and good materials so hopefully it was a good investment. I have it on my bedroom windowsill atm as couldnt find anywhere else to put it.

I have planted 3 cherokee purple tomato seeds in and 5 early jalapeno seeds in.

It is 8w the propagator i hope thats enough.

I watered the soil first then made some small holes with tip of a pen i had lying around about 1cm or a bit less which i hope is about right depth. Then covered with some dry seed soil and then patted it every so gently then gave it a spray on the new dry soil i put on to cover seeds. Poped in the propagator and switch it on and covered (the air vent is closed which i presume is the right thing to do).

I have 5 apache chilli seeds going in a unheated propgator in boiler cupboard and few chillies i think bell pepper and super bell pepper on windowsill i think.

Got mine into some pots today, I think I may have one too many. Might have to "give" the lass a few to look after ;)

My biggest one is at the back right. The big plant is a generic flower from b&q nothing special.

we have ignition.
Absolutely no sign on Friday, checked Sunday morning and there where 4 completely white shoots (totally dark cupboard) lights have been on since about 7pm last night and they have turned green, phew. Just hope some of the others germinate.

Cool. :)

And yeah when their in dark they wont be green when they emerge. They get their green colour from light during photosynthesis. Well i think that's why it was.

Still got mine from a couple of years ago. Need to re-plant a couple of demon red plants as mine died when left under others' care (oops!).

They're all looking a bit ratty, and I probably need to trim them back a bit, but my scotch bonnets are flowering again.

I currently have 5 Scotch bonnets and 2 Hungarian Hot Wax. Hopefully my Anaheim plant will revive itself, it had a load of mites on it, but they seem to have cleared off.

My main problem in my flat is space. I think I'm going to do some trimming and look at getting some plastic sheeting for my balcony to protect the plants from the wind a bit. Shouldn't be too long before the plants will happily sit outside again.

i bought a 'chili bags' bag from wilkinsons, £1.59, it's a sort of foil bag with top cut off, the cayennes grew really quick, about 2" after 2 weeks, moved some into another pot... i planted some varying types of chili seeds in seed trays covered with cling film and no joy so far...

Here is my super bell pepper plant from last year, its a bit slow but im hoping it will regrow the branches and give some fruit this year. If anyone has overwintered chilli plants before could u let me know if this is ok and will grow ok or is it too slow at regrowing?
